IF YOU’RE NOT FOCUSED ON THESE TWO QUESTIONS, YOU’RE WASTING TIME, HOLDING YOURSELF BACK AND FOCUSING ON ALL THE WRONG STUFF.
This is a great big bold statement to make, but give me a minute because it’s absolutely true. I get asked a lot of questions every week from Women Who WOW members all over the globe. They are the same questions I used to wrestle with when I was trying to “crack” this whole online marketing thing.
How often should I email my list?
What should I write about ?
What should I say?
How often should I blog?
What if they unsubscribe?
What if they think I’m being pushy or too sales-y?
What should I offer?
What’s a good open rate?
What’s a good conversion rate?
Should I email my list again?
How many times should I post on social media?
How long should my blog / live stream / etc. be?
All reasonable questions… most of which, as I said, I’ve wrestled with myself.
All reasonable, yes. But they’re not all PROFITABLE questions to ask. Listen, there are always “best practices” in marketing. There are “rules.” BUT, the rules change, often. Analytics change. Readership changes. Habits change.
In other words, as soon as we change our blogging patterns to coincide with the current statistics about the “best days to post on our blogs,” those days will change. As soon as we “catch up” to some fancy algorithm, it’s changed on us. As soon as we master ONE social media or digital outlet, another one pops up.
So, screw the rules. ALL of them. While all of those questions above are reasonable, they’re not REALLY worth your time… not really.
What REALLY matters is what you’re here for, who you’re here to help and how you’ll offer that help…. i.e. YOUR CORE PURPOSE.
Your best work.
Your nuanced brilliance.
And what it offers the market you’ve chosen to serve.
So, any time you’re asking yourself — or someone else — any of these questions above, try this instead:
View every proposed action through the lens of THESE TWO QUESTIONS:
Does ___(what i’m considering doing)____ align with my core purpose?
Will __(what i’m considering doing)____ serve / help my chosen target market?
If it is Yes and Yes… send the email, make the ask, write the blog, offer the package…
If it’s a No OR No… just don’t.
Because we’re not here to win some trophy for being the savviest internet marketer.
We’re here to SERVE a specific market with a specific problem. So, does it align with your core purpose? And will it help someone? If so… YES.
Yes to emailing your list 3x a day if that is whats a YES and YES.
Yes to blogging only on Saturdays.
And Yes to blogging every day.
Yes to inviting someone new to work with you,
and Yes to inviting someone back….
IF that action you’re considering is a YES and YES. =)
