Warning: Most people totally ignore the first prong, or state it without having the ACTUAL chops to back it up. (Rant included free.)
Packaging your offer is something that so many entrepreneurs get SO wrong, often missing their golden goose ONLY by a few small tweaks, and giving up thinking that “nobody was buying” or their “market is too cheap,” or whatever. Packaging is a nuanced beast, but it has three essential prongs… the first of which most people miss entirely or LIE about so poorly it’s hard to miss:
POSITIONING. You can have an amazing offer but if people don’t know who YOU are or why they should learn from you, be mentored by you, or buy from you… you’re going to fall on deaf ears. So, WHY YOU?
Why should they buy from you over any other option they have available to them?
Who ARE you — exactly– to your market?
What positioning will you CLAIM as your own?
And here’s a “duh” moment for you:
If you claim some great position in the market, you’ve got to make it AT LEAST somewhat believable…
In other words, if “your thing” is that you’re going to help me EXPLODE my small business using Social media… I’m going to expect to see you on social with more than 100 or so followers on twitter, a broken Facebook link and a blog that looks like it died over 6 months ago.
If you’re saying that you’ve got 13,000 members in your membership, I’m calling B.S. when I can see that your site has substantially less traffic than mine and is ranked substantially lower.
If you’re going to teach me how to leverage MY success using teams, I’m going to roll my eyes (twice) when you tell me you work alone.
When you’re carving out your positioning, you’ve got to make it authentic…. even if aspirational, it’s got to be rooted in something REAL, but also something that matters to your market.
Rant over. Moving on.
THE PACKAGE ITSELF. What goes into your packaging? Not just the features, friend… but WHY you chose that feature, what it will do for the end user… and then….
What else? How can you build out your package to make it SO ROBUST that they’d be FOOLS to say NO to it.
And then…
What else? Build it out some more.
And finally, PRICING.
