4 BATTLES EVERY WOMAN ENTREPRENEUR MUST FIGHT… AND WIN TO SUCCEED.
I DO recognize that some will be turned off by this title. As they are when I talk about the corpses of businesses that lie rotting on the battlefield of business.
But ignoring them doesn’t remove the stench.
And fighting is SOMETIMES part of success.
I would avoid this topic if I could. Trust me. I actually reign myself in… QUITE a BIT.
I remember reading an email newsletter about this woman who found out through some 23-and-me sleuthing that she had a great great grandfather who had murdered someone.
Granted, she had never met this man. She didn’t even know prior to her sleuthing that he was related to her in any way. But knowing this action of a distant, previously unknown relative SOOO changed her that she changed everything about her life, including her sexual preference.
I was reading her “raw” post with such…
awe, really. I was flabbergasted at the impact this had on her.
You see… In my DIRECT, KNOWN and LOVED “ancestry,” I have known three people who have committed murder. One ruled self-defense. The other out of jealousy and hurt. The third out of sheer ego and cruelty. ALL were emotions-not-reigned-in, emotions and anger run amok.
These are not my stories to tell. But I want to clarify these are not men I did not know or knew only from some great distance. These are men that I had regular contact with, one — now deceased — who is revered and greatly loved to this day.
I say this because I know where I come from. I know my DNA. I am AWARE. There ARE times when I reign my emotions in, particularly anger… times I watch my words closely… perhaps the way someone with addiction in their past (or in their family) may watch their alcohol intake. I do this because I am AWARE of the potential — good and bad — that courses through my veins.
I am NATURALLY scrappy. Gritty. Rebellious. (FOR LATER: My rebellion is on full display in this International Woman’s Day article: https://www.bmichellepippin.com/stop-the-chase-a-guide…/)
I am not afraid of a fight or even an extended battle. But because of my AWARENESS of anger (and where it can lead)
I DO walk away from a lot,
personally and professionally…
Without ANY engagement at all.
In business, I OFTEN advise walking away from a fight (legal or otherwise)… rather than engaging in it. The VAST majority of fights are simply not worth it, not worth getting entangled, not worth the anger, not worth the distraction.
BUT, there are some battles we MUST fight… and win. In business, there are four battles that our success DEPENDS upon.
And regardless of WHAT you think about yourself, please know that we are ALL able to be courageous — and successful– warriors.
The question is…
are we willing?
As you read through these battles that all women entrepreneurs must fight and win… consider the following:
— Are you walking away from this one? Hoping it will go away? Refusing to engage? (Hint: NONE of these four will go away.)
and
— Are you PREPARED to fight this battle and win? IF not, what do you need to do / create to get prepared?
Battle #1: The Battle Against Obscurity.
“Obscurity is the single biggest killer to a business or entrepreneur.” — Grant Cardone
OBSCURITY definition: the condition of being unknown: an unknown or unimportant person or thing; darkness; dimness; indistinctness.
WHOA. Let’s break this down, but in reverse. Defeating obscurity is nearly a FULL business plan in and of itself. It solves a lot of problems.
Because it’s MORE than being KNOWN.
Beating Obscurity Battle Plan:
Beating obscurity means you’re KNOWN, as an IMPORTANT and DISTINCT entity.
This demands you show up RELENTLESSLY…
but not just to check off a list.
Beating obscurity demands you show up RELENTLESSLY… READY TO SERVE people; because this is how you make yourself “important.” You SERVE.
And what’s more…
If obscurity is darkness and dimness and indistinctness…
Beating Obscurity demands you show up 1) RELENTLESSLY, 2) READY TO SERVE, and 3) SHINING BRIGHTLY, RUTHLESSLY “YOU.”
So, none of this B.S. of fitting in. YES, shining brightly and authentically WILL earn you some blow back, make you some “frenemies” (which are just enemies hiding behind a smile!) you MUST shine anyway.
Battle #2: The Battle For New Ground.
If business were easy, no one would have a J-O-B. The truth is, being a self-bosser is an ONGOING “crash course” in self-development. We have to keep growing because our business will NEVER outgrow its creator.
One of the primary battles every entrepreneur faces is the battle for NEW GROUND, even while maintaining their current level of success. You’ve been there, right?
When you do some launch, get a bunch of new clients… and then get lost in serving said clients, losing sight of the bigger and better goals you set for yourself, pushing your business goals further and further down the to do list. Only to find yourself BACK where you started, launching for new clients again.
Round and round we go.
Like Groundhog Day, the Entrepreneurial version.
New Ground Battle Plan:
— DELIBERATELY DESIGN your marketing engine to run on fuel you have in ABUNDANCE. For me, the marketing engine of MY business runs on the written word. THIS IS BY DESIGN because I am a writer who loves to write. When your marketing engine runs on something you do daily and naturally… you’ll always welcome new leads and clients. You won’t have feast / famine cycles because you’re always marketing. Make sense?
— Keep a steady eye on your bigger goals. Literally “bathe” in them every single day. Make it a habit so you don’t get lost in “maintenance mode.” Look at the goals, spend 1-2 minutes imagining them. And then take ONE bold step towards them every week.
Battle #3: The Battle for Magic
Ahhhhh magic. It’s what we all secretly want, right? We want to see the heavens open up and rain down ALL the things we want. We want the red sea to part to make a way for a BACKLOG of clients or patients to come our way.
But also, we want our magic to be SEEN and appreciated.
Our opponent in this battle for magic is MEDIOCRITY. That hideous, insidious, sneaky, contagious beast of mediocrity… the middle… the “masses.”
Battle Plan for Magic:
This battle is similar to the battle against obscurity. The weapons / battle plan is this:
ABHOR mediocrity.
AVOID the middle.
Pursue your own magic. Make room for it. Put it on display — relentlessly and ruthlessly — without dulling your shine one teeny tiny little bit. SURE they may squint in your direction, but let ’em put on shades or turn around and retreat into their OWN dim quarters if they must.
You were BORN to shine.
Battle #4: The Battle For Simplicity.
Every where you look in the entrepreneurial world, there will be a SEDUCTRESS named complexity. Complexity and complications regarding funnels and technology and new platforms and shorts and longs and apps and sacrifices we must make to the google gods, and whatever else.
And you are smart, educated, driven… You’re a DAMN good student, probably always have been.
So, being the Simpleton in the group feels… well,
it CAN feel “un-evolved” in some way.
But simple is beautiful.
Simple is replicable.
Simple is what gets done.
Simple is what allows for you to have a LIFE you love and are proud to live.
Speaking of living a life you are proud to live… did you hear about Women Who WOW’s new intensive? It’s call TRUE Success Files. Find out more here: https://www.bmichellepippin.com/true-success-files…/
Battle Plan for Simplicity.
KNOW your core engines in your business. MEASURE so you know what efforts are working. SLASH the ones that aren’t and do more of what does. KEEP IT SIMPLE. FIGHT for simplicity. LOOK for unnecessary complexities and remove them.
A simple business is a FREEDOM business.
A simple business is a lifestyle business.
