There are few “success enemies” that feel as universal as that of “too little time.” So, when I read a response to a “managing time” post on facebook from a man that I’ve never met, nor heard of, nor connected with in any way — and it stopped me in my tracks — I knew I had to share. His simple tips for time mastery are practical and immediately applicable.
Gary Bloomer, on the off chance that you’re reading this post, welcome… great to meet you… and thank you. (I’d love for you to explain #3 to us in a bit more detail, should you wish to comment!) Everyone else, here’re are Gary Bloomer’s tips, which I swiped, without permission, off of facebook. Emphasis is mine.
1) Sign off from ALL e-mail, the TV, from radio, from phones and from “da family.” Yes, this is said all the time. BUT, we don’t do it. Speed is created by focus. And when you can get done what used to take you 30 hours in 15, you’ve won big time. Focus.
2) Break a large task into 4 smaller tasks. Set time limits, gather notes and resources, then dive in. Not sure WHY, but breaking a task into 4 smaller tasks was specific enough for me to embrace. Sure, I’ve heard “break a task into smaller tasks” but breaking a large project into 4 tasks seemed so much more practical. I’ve tried it. It works.
3) Zone! Anyone want to guess what Mr. Bloomer is referring to here? My guess is that he’s talking about doing like tasks together, but I could be way wrong.
4) Be the task. See the task as complete. Feel how great it”ll be when you git’er done! Again, nothing new, EXACTLY, but it worked for me. It worked to motivate me to focus on a big looming task and be done with it!
Let me know what your top “Get R Done” tips are… and tell me what you think of those I listed above!
