Women are smart creatures. We tend to “just KNOW” stuff, stuff that is just below the surface, and we know JUST how to position things so that we look noble, righteous, WISE… when we’re really just being cowards.
Stay with me.
Well, stay with me if you know you were born for more,
if you KNOW that despite all you have already done,
that you are UNDER achieving,
because you know that you know that you know
that you have been CALLED to more.
This isn’t about ego.
You’ve known this since way before you even heard the word ego. Even the DAYdreams of your childhood were different. Grandiose even. Daunting. Weird. You dreamed of worlds you’d never seen in real life, or even on TV… experiences that no one talked to you about or “planted in your head.”
Woman, these weren’t day dreams.
Well, unless you INSIST on continuing to ignore and discount them as such.
No, they were more than that.
They were clues…
leading you into all that you have the potential to be, create, have and do.
They were a foretelling,
not of what will land in your lap if you just keep thinking of it,
but what is DESTINED to be yours,
when you just do the work.
So, if this is you, stay with me. I want to show you 5 ways we hide our cowardice, playing coy with all that we know that we ARE.
💥Lie # 1: You’ll Do it NEXT TIME.
Oh, this is a super cute one. It can appear so wise. You’re going to budget, or save or move stuff around… so that you can show up NEXT TIME.
I get asked about “Next time” all the time.
“Michelle are you going to be offering this again?”
lol… It doesn’t matter.
and you KNOW it doesn’t matter.
Because whatever you’re asking about
is calling YOUR NAME,
lighting up YOUR soul with possibilities
NOW.
You never want to sign up for something because you are afraid of missing out. You want to sign up because it is CALLING YOUR NAME… and you don’t care if I’m offering it 13 more times and twice more on Sunday. Because however you’re considering investing in yourself today… is for today.
I know how WISE it can sound,
to talk about your budget and your saving and your next time promises. I know how pious it can feel to make wise decisions that “deny yourself” today.
And for chocolate cake,
or a boob job,
or a day off from work,
fine.
Actually it’s NOT fine.
not really.
Keep shutting down the URGES of your soul,
and you will dull your soul’s voice.
The calling you NEVER questioned as a girl will lose its poignancy, dulled by your own lack of going all in on EVERY day, and leaving SO MUCH on the table for next time.
Keep quieting the voice that SCREAMS out for MORE,
keep putting off the stuff that will grow YOU,
grow your stage,
grow your audience,
grow your message…
keep putting it off long enough,
and eventually…
you’ll be sitting with yo’ wise self,
KNOWING that no matter how WISE it looks to others,
you were JUST hiding.
Hiding behind the excuse of not enough time or not enough money. Hiding behind the promise of next time, ignoring ALL the evidence in your life of the next times that turned into next times that turned into nevers. (or at least, STiLL not yet!)
Yeah, next time isn’t a circumstance, friend.
It’s a habit, a mentality, a mindset.
So, what have you put off until NEXT TIME,
that you KNOW is for you,
for you business and brand,
RIGHT FREAKING NOW??????
Moving on…
💥 Lie # 2, related but not the same: It’s not the right time.
I get it.
Because I’ve lived it.
Your kids are too small,
too young,
and so you need to be there.
OR
your kids are growing so fast,
and you’re feeling the urgency to be there more.
OR
you’re too young, too inexperienced, too “unknown,”
OR
You’re too old, you missed the boat, you don’t want to switch directions after all this time.
Don’t you see?
Your life’s work is to be completed,
the only time it CAN be completed,
which is in the MIDST of life itself.
The world is NEVER going to stop turning,
to give you ample, untainted time
to fulfill your purpose in this world.
The sun is NOT going to stay in the sky and not move to give you the “extra” time to grow this business.
Don’t you see?
You feel too young until you feel too old.
You feel your kids are too young until some other mom-related circumstance is factored in.
Excuses about timing are ALWAYS excuses.
Timing doesn’t exist.
The only time ANY Of us have is now.
Name your guru, celebrity or famous author.
Their books, work, business wasn’t created in some space and time hidden from you. ALL OF IT that you look at and envy was built “in the midst of” timing “issues.” The difference? Those who succeed wildly TRULY honor the timing of NOW.
So, what excuses are you making about timing? And when are you going to stop? What do you CHOOSE to do… today? Your business will be a future collection of your every days, not your “one day.”
💥 Lie # 3: I’m so humble. Nothing to see here.
If you’re still reading, you already know that you’re seen.
Watched, in some cases.
In my case, I’ve been watched and pondered for as long as I can remember. Being different,
being wildly different
in how you THINK
will create such a scenario.
I didn’t fit into boxes,
and so I — obviously — stood out.
I was a stoner AND an excellent student.
I was a cheerleader AND a drama geek.
I was a teenager and FULLY confident.
I was in the moment, but also ALWAYS ready for whatever came my way.
I was both fun and fury.
I was deep and airy.
I was sensual and moral.
I was empowered and traditional.
The point is: I knew who I was
and felt NO need to explain it, or make it fit.
I’m the same way today.
And this, stands out.
You know this because you are the same.
A wonderful mix of things that stand out,
not because you’re an attention whore,
but because they — this mix — could NEVER “Fit in.”
So, tell me…
why then
do you go about your day acting as if you could EVER dull your shine ENOUGH not to incite envy or confusion or resentment?
Oh, resentment is the worse, right?
Because if they knew your heart…
your deepest desire to TRULY make an impact in the world,
if they TRULY knew the burden of carrying the dreams you hold in your heart,
and the SHEER AGONY of responsibility and judgement you hold so close….
well, they wouldn’t resentful would they?
Still, we try to dull our shine,
just ENOUGH to avoid the judgement and isolation of being “Not one of them.”
We say we do this for them….
to make everyone feel included
or to make everyone feel good about themselves.
But the TRUTH is,
we’re doing it because we’re afraid.
What if we SHINE,
and then stumble and fall while ALL eyes are on us?
What if, my friend?
What if, indeed…
Here’s the hard truth:
You’ll keep stumbling and falling,
and you’ll keep getting up,
making it look GRACEFUL to those on the outside looking in.
it’s what you’ve always done.
And frankly, it’s what you’re doing now.
Largely by dulling the GRANDIOSITY of your dreams and goals.
Yep, I see you.
I know you.
So, stay with me.
💥Lie #4: I’m So Content, Patient, and Tolerant.
Again, noble.
A noble attempt
at normalcy, at mediocrity.
I’ll give you two points for effort here,
for all of your PATIENCE and TOLERANCE for the things which you KNOW are not
or are no longer
aligned for you.
Meaning…
the things of today
that you KNOW
are NOT lining up with the future
you know you are here to create.
I don’t CARE what they are.
How big or how small.
The clients that need to be fired,
the office that needs to be upgraded,
the relationships that need to come to an abrupt end,
the underwear that feel just SO uninspiring,
the workout gear that doesn’t get you excited to hit the pavement,
the clothes that you can’t remember why you hold onto because they are JUST not you… Hint: they were bought when you were trying to “professional up,” so make like Frozen and let it ALL go.
Stop being so tolerant of things that don’t fit with your ultimate vision. Make ROOM For what you really want, deserve and are in fact in the process of creating…. by getting rid of everything else.
💥 Lie # 5: I am SUCH a do-er.
Oh, I KNOW you are woman.
I know you make your list and check them off.
I know when you compare what YOU do for business,
to what 98% of others do,
OH I KNOW how superior your “doing” is.
I know you follow through.
I Know you do the work.
But, I also know…
that all of the dotting of the i’s and crossing of the t’s
is holding you WAY back.
Why??? HOW??? Because my God you are doing ALL you know to do and THEN some…. You’ve got the podcasts, the books, the blog, the YouTube Channel, the chat bots, the funnels, the opt ins, which you are CONSTANTLY tweaking and updating.
So, WHAT GIVES?
Well… this is why you always seem to be AT LEAST an arm’s length away from getting “there.”
THIS is why you always feel like you’re ALMOST there, but not quite.
Because as DRIVEN as you are to get the work done,
you are IGNORING the deeper work.
You are STILL holding back from saying what needs to be said,
you are STILL censoring yourself,
you are STILL shying away from the TRANSFORMATIONAL work you can do in someone’s life.
You’re playing the role of do-er,
when you were CALLED to be
a transformer.
Can you see how this is working? Against you?
What are YOU avoiding saying? doing?
Where are you avoiding going ALL IN?
Where are you busy with busy work,
while the TRANSFORMATIONAL stuff is being ignored?
So there’s that.
This is MY list.
What did I leave off?
Where did I NOT touch on a lie you’ve been telling yourself to keep yourself satisfied with playing small?
And also,
if you want to go big,
if you want an audience that is infinitely bigger than your current list,
if you want to be seen, heard and followed,
if you are WILLING to be seen, heard and followed…
MEDIA is necessary.
Real media.
Big media.
National media.
It changes everything.
It changes how you’re viewed,
how you’re responded to,
how your brand is perceived.
It doesn’t JUST grow your audience, friend.
It builds you a stage,
the stage you KNOW is yours,
and has always been yours.
And truth be told,
you’ve watched OTHERS on that stage,
owning it,
and you’ve THOUGHT,
“that should be me.”
