#REALBOOK I’m not going to lie… today’s not been a good day. Truth be told, there’s trouble on the homefront, lol… and it’s (mainly) my fault.
Of course, I’ve apologized.
Still, like a bad hangover, I’m feeling WOEFULLY uninspired.
BUT… Does this mean I don’t show up? Cancel my appointments? Skip a day of showing up for my members? Skip a day of messaging?
OF COURSE NOT.
I’m not a child. I don’t have to feel INSPIRED to go to the gym, to do my homework, to show up as scheduled, or to write an article like this one.
I’d RATHER feel inspired, of course…. but I don’t HAVE to be inspired. I think the new term is called “adulting,” and I’m pretty sure you know how to do it.
Because you USED to do it.
When you had a JOB.
You wouldn’t call in “Just had a fight with my Mister.”
You showed up with a cold.
You showed up uninspired.
You showed up disappointed, or sad, or even grieving.
Yet, somewhere along the line, you became an #entrepreneur, a #bizwoman and you decided that you ONLY wanted to work “inspired.”
So, get over yourself… because you’ve got a business to grow, friend!! You’ve got a vision to make a reality, a message to share with the world, people to help, dollars to make. Here are 7 quick ways to help you do JUST THAT… show up, even when you’re not inspired:
1) Make a list of no less than 3 simple easy things you’ll accomplish TODAY. I often start with three, but making a list is taking SOME action, so it will prime the pump for MORE action.
2) Journal about how you’d LIKE to feel instead of how you’re feeling now. Journal Prompt: If I were totally inspired today, I’d……
3) Create an amazing environment for your work space. Go to a park. Set up an office on your back deck. (This is what I did today.) Put on some great music, whatever. Make your environment some place you’d LIKE to be.
4) GET inspired. =) Put on those big girl panties and inspire yourself. Deep breath… take a walk… go for a jog… do something you love, and GET inspired.
5) REALITY CHECK: Consider the alternative. My Mister is a teacher… which means, when he doesn’t show up for work, they call in a substitute. But, let’s face facts, this isn’t your reality. When YOU don’t show up, everything you’re supposed to do today will fall into your lap for TOMORROW… So, consider the (real world) alternative of NOT showing up.
6) Look back at the list you created in suggestion #1 and decide: What are you wiling to START right now? It can be the smallest task… but action begets action… and YOU need to get some of that. =)
7) Promise yourself that you can watch Peter Pan after work hours… because today, you’re going to ADULT.
I promise, you’ll feel better when you do. (And showing up, consistently, delivering value… well, that’s what EMPIRES are made of.)
