Please. Save your time and money and maybe your self-confidence or confidence in your business… and RUN in the other direction.
“Scaling” is a term that is so over-used today… and THE PURSUIT of this “scale” is leading way too many business owners
— INTO the turbulent waters of debt (bigger teams, ad budgets, software systems, said software system experts, etc.), complexity and ALWAYS feeling behind…
and
— AWAY from CRITICAL business principles and metrics. (ROI, relationship, positioning / expertise, messaging, packaging, etc.)
Too many selling scale,
too few actually asking what — if anything —
you ACTUALLY have to scale.
Scale is a term that is borrowed from the engineering world… in other words, how much pressure can something sustain before it breaks? Or, how much can YOUR BUSINESS sustain without breaking down??
Scary when you consider that MOST people spending money learning to scale, they ARE their business… so “breaking” is a scary concept. Similarly, MOST people getting caught in the “scale” trap are self-funded… so breaking financially… is ALSO a scary concept.
I don’t do fear, but there are a LOT of otherwise healthy businesses that could ABSOLUTELY do $400K – $600K without all of the complexity, with FAR less time, stress and overhead WITHOUT “scaling.” (At least the way it’s being taught.)
When these same business press pause on WHAT IS WORKING to chase scale…
to get their backend in order… to
switch software and hosting programs, and
to otherwise build in DISTANCE between they and their market….
money stops flowing towards them.
clients become harder to find.
BUT going back to what worked before
what always worked
feels like going backwards.
I spoke years ago on MY method of Scaling. I called it Scaling with SANITY. lol… It is simple. It works. MY business is the leanest, money producing machine I know of.
It performs for me,
AS I HAVE DESIGNED IT TO.
Its mission is to continually increase my impact, influence AND income.
Because I DESIGNED it to do these things,
it does.
It continued to produce as I grieved the sudden loss of my brother and only sibling.
It continued to produce as I focused (instead) on running my parent’s construction company.
I have BUILT scale, but in a way that is built around ME,
my natural rhythms,
the way I WANT to spend my time.
So, for instance, I don’t do sales calls.
I don’t do webinars.
I don’t have a large team.
I don’t do ads.
I RARELY travel to speak.
I couldn’t care less about social media algorithms.
I do not do JVs or affiliate marketing.
I do not do cold messaging on facebook, or any other platform.
It’s not that I have anything AGAINST these things.
I just don’t want to do them.
Instead, I have a VERY SIMPLE syndication system that I built over time that keeps my content CONSISTENTLY in front of 100+ audiences that are paying attention to it. I keep producing content for OTHERS to share. I DELIBERATELY built and maintain my positioning as an authority in the market.
I make offers via my writing.
The right people find me.
And stay.
I have a SIMPLE business.
