The other day, I was chatting with a good friend, who happens to also be the Founder and CEO of Success in the City and she asked me how I was doing. This was my EXACT response:
Great! Things are moving so quickly over here. In all the best of ways. But I feel like I’m always in a cycle. Major growth followed by a season of learning to manage it at its new level… without losing the LIFE I love…. followed by Major growth… followed by a season of learning how to manage it.
So, there you have it. The truth. My truth, at least. But, I also believe it’s a bit of a UNIVERSAL truth, even though it’s inconvenient for those selling you 4-hour Work Weeks or “Passive Income” products to admit.
The more success I achieve in business, the more I realize that SUCCESS has never really been a destination. We’re entrepreneurs. If I were to re-define that word today, it’d mean: “Those in constant pursuit of higher levels of success.”
Constant.
Pursuit.
This isn’t to say I’m not content. I’m VERY content. I love my home, my husband, my marriage, my kids, my parents and family, and have TRULY begun to love and appreciate (and make time for) the power of “girlfriends” in my life. But, I’m also pursuing. Constantly.
The truth is, I’m curious. I’m curious about what’s possible for me. What can I ACCOMPLISH while still being the wife and mother and friend and daughter and sister and niece and aunt I’m called to be?
How far can I take this little business that could?
That’s the question I ask every day. Wait. That’s not true. Many days, I’m asking, “What have I gotten myself into?” On others, I’m wondering, “How in the WORLD will I manage all of this?” BUT, here’s the thing. I create a new level of success, and then….. I do learn to MANAGE it well.
It’s THEN that the OH-SO-FAMILIAR “How far can I take this little business that could?” question begins to ring louder and louder in my head. It’s THEN that I start inventing new ways to grow. New successes to leverage. New ideas to test. And creating a new “success mess” to manage.
