Tomorrow is my second Women Who WOW | Business Strategy Meeting and I literally can’t wait! We’ve turned away a few people and had some “opt out” after learning a bit more about our, um… approach! =)
That’s okay. This group — already — has a member roster that packs a punch. I’m proud and honored just to stand among them.
But, there is something that we STAND FOR that is troubling for so many business owners to get behind. Frankly, it’s the No B.S. approach I’m known for:
No excuses. Just results.
Because you can have EITHER: the excuses of why you won’t dig deep and achieve what’s possible for you OR the achievement itself. But, you can not have both. You must choose.
As I marvel at the incredible opportunities and “wins” we’ve had this week, I also take note of what I’ve had to plug my ears and walk away from. TONS of excuses. All, I believe, truthful excuses by the way. Meaning, I don’t believe these people are lying to me. Or to my clients.
To every excuse-maker, regardless of the BRAND of excuse, I want to say,
Don’t kid yourself, honey… You are not alone.
We all have busy days, moments of insanity, and rivaling priorities. We all have deadlines, appointments to keep, and a to do list that needs more checks on it. MANY of us have child care or elder care issues that demand our loving time and attention. Most of us have household issues or marital demands or health challenges. ALL of us can wake up today and find an “honest” excuse of why we “can’t” achieve today. That’s the truth! Life is busy. And Life can be hard. And business, while it can (and should) be simple, is not often “easy.”
But none of these (very real and even very daunting) challenges are original. Trust me, I wish they were! And, frankly, for me lately I wish they were FAR less frequent. There are days when I wish God would realize I’d reached my “quota” for the day! =) I get it. Boy, do I get it. Because you are not alone.
But know this, because here is where the MOST successful part ways with the painfully mediocre: We don’t accept the excuses, not our own anyway. We view obstacles and hiccups and bumps in the road and unexpected detours as another opportunity to SOLIDIFY our commitment. Because if ONE excuse will do, ANY excuse will do.
What will you embrace today? The “excuse” that lets you “off the hook” in your own mind? Or the challenge of achieving ANYWAY? For me, it has to be the latter.
