Warning: Business & Coaching heresy to follow! After a quick trip to Chick Fil A this weekend, I spent some time perusing the sites of business coaches across the globe. Here’s the TRUTH that “they” don’t tell you and — frankly — I’m not sure that I’ve ever put it this plainly either.
You DO NOT Need To Hire a Business Coach To Make Money in Your Business.
The picture to my left is evidence to that end. Here’s a girl in my local Chick Fil A restaurant, playing the harp. That basket on the table to her left is filled with money. $1, $5, $10 and $20 dollar bills. A simple Note is displayed above it saying that she is on the Dave Ramsey plan, and is saving up to buy her first car… and, of course, that tips are welcome.
She played masterfully and with professionalism and joy. Based on the money in her basket and the time of day I visited Chick Fil A, I’d say that she would probably walk away with about $300.
Let’s say she did this every Saturday for 6 months.
$1200 per month times 12. $14400 in one year. She could easily add in Friday evenings and double her earnings. $28,800.
Working a few hours a week, doing something she loved, being admired by her “clients” and reaching one of her first financial goals based on her LOVE of playing the harp.
Here’s a teenager, making great money in an industry (music / entertainment) that so many people have found to be SOOOOO hard to make money in. No business plan. No business coach. No entertainment agent. No complicated marketing strategy. Just a skill and a willingness to do it for money. A willingness to take a chance.
WHAT IS HER SECRET?
She’s keeping it simple, and being bold. I encourage you to do the same.
So many people come to me and think it is SOOO hard to make money as a small business owner. WHY? Because we ALL have an innate talent and compulsion to make the simple complicated. If you’ve NOT yet made your first $20K in your business or with your new income stream, consider the following and allow it to guide you BACK to what is simple and bold:
- What conditions have you put on your business? Are you willing to do “whatever it takes?” If not, be willing. Adopt a “whatever it takes” mentality.
- Are you willing to take a chance, or are you waiting for the guarantee? Be bold. Take a chance!
- What is the simplest, lemonade-stand-esque way you can bring in your first income from this talent or skill?
So, when DO you need to hire a business coach or strategist? Here’s an incomplete list:
When you are ready to go BIG.
When you’re ready to systemize your success, so you can leverage and grow.
When $20K – $50K a year is no longer enough for you.
When you want MORE than what you’ve been able to produce on your own.
When you keep hitting the same “income ceiling” or wrestling with the same challenges.
When you realize you’re in the same place today that you were in last year at this time.
When you are ready to embrace accountability in order to reach your goals.
When incremental increase is unacceptable and you want to make a huge LEAP.
