What should follow the huge commercial success of the Elf on the Shelf? Santa Dust, naturally.
The concept for Santa Dust and eventually the book The Magical Tale of Santa Dust began when its founder, Patricia’s children were toddlers. At Christmas time, she would say to them, “How is Santa going to know where you live? With all of the houses and apartments in the world, how is he going to know which one you live in? He can’t go to them all; he’d never make it to all the children in the world. We have to help guide him along the way!”
So together they mixed a special combination of glitter and stars of different colors, shapes and sizes and carefully placed it into plastic bags. They called their creation “Santa Dust”. They would then walk around their neighborhood and sprinkle their magical Santa Dust with the hope of guiding Santa and his reindeer to their door. It never failed. Year after year, the mornings following their Santa Dust walks were filled with squeals of delight at discovering that Santa had indeed found his way.
Over the years, their Christmas Eve Santa Dust walks became a tradition in their family and neighborhood and took on a life of their own. Every year, a few more children were joining them, each child sprinkling Santa Dust in the hopes of guiding Santa and his reindeer to their door.
The Magical Tale of Santa Dust – A Christmas Tradition continues where the Elf on the Shelf finishes. After the Elf returns to the North Pole, now children have to guide him to their door with magical Santa Dust.
Santa Dust was launched by Macy’s department store as part of their national Believe Christmas campaign, was nominated as one of the Best New Products of the Year at the National Stationery Show and was awarded the prestigious Mom’s Choice Award in excellence.
Patricia has learned that creating success can be a long road and nothing happens overnight. She says, “You must have a love and passion for your business for it to succeed.”
True! I’ve often said that you need to do something you are so passionate about, that the passion will keep you going… until the paychecks do! Congratulations Patricia on your success!! =)
