It’s true.
I’ve repeated the phrase, “it’s what you do.” 8376 times, at least. And, for good measure, I’ve used different inflection:
It’s WHAT you do. (The actions you’re taking.)
it’s what YOU do. (No one is coming. it’s up to you.)
It’s what you DO. (Not what you plan to do, but what you actually do.)
Still true. But, it’s also about who you are BEING. It’s about who you are becoming.
You see, I spent many years gutting out my business. Pushing through, toppling over, obliterating obstacles, overcoming objections, like an entrepreneurial warrior of some sort.
Every morning, suiting up.
Sharpening my sword.
READY FOR BATTLE.
And there’s some merit here.
But eventually… I looked around me and saw that there were others who fought every day like me and were succeeding like me. We were kindred spirits. We “got it.”
I also saw people who refused to fight and accepted failure. #yuck.
But I saw something else.
Another group. Those who were succeeding without so many battles. Those who looked refreshed and passionate. Those who were genuinely lit up inside. Those who seemed to have that certain spring in their step. They were genuine and generous. They were happy and at peace.
They did the work,
but also
success just seemed to flow from who they WERE…
how they showed up…
who they were BEING in their market.
It was THIS group that I began studying. Suspiciously, at first… (which, if you REALLY know me, would NOT surprise you.) I looked for things not visible in their hustle:
A generous and patient husband funding the whole charade; or maybe a trust fund that was never mentioned. 😊
I’m incredibly adept at sniffing out the BS in my industry. I can take one look, one whiff and separate those who are “playing at business” and those who are creating serious success. What can I say? It’s a gift. 😊
I DID find some charlatans.
Of course.
BUT also… I found some real deals.
And woman…
i leaned in.
I stalked them (legally, with precision and intention.)
I joined their programs.
I read what they read.
I paid big money to have private time with them.
I orchestrated interviews to open doors to their world.
I DID WHATEVER IT TOOK to find out what the rest of the world was missing.
What I was missing.
And, here’s what I found:
They believed in a big vision.
Day by day, they SAW it in their minds.
Day by day, they rose up and EMBODIED the persona of the person who THAT vision would be “normal” for.
They BECAME that person.
They ACTED (and took action) as THAT person for whom their vision was already reality.
Day by day, they GREW and EVOLVED as a person.
Because, news flash,
your business will NEVER outperform or outgrow its owner.
P.S. This is why Women Who WOW membership includes something we call an #EntrepreneurialEspresso, served up hot and fresh every morning. it’s there to wake you up to your potential… but also it’s there to GROW you, the boss.
