Many coaches encourage entrepreneurs to look at their competitors. You know, SWOT analysis and all that jazz. What do they offer? What do they charge?
The truth is, it doesn’t matter…. if you’re doing things right. If you’re doing things RIGHT, your market knows that they can ONLY get YOU by coming through the doors of YOUR business. For example:
You can get work done on your beach house a HECK of a lot cheaper by nearly any and all competitors… but you can ONLY get my Dad’s expertise by coming to
.
You can get financial coaching from any NUMBER of sources, but you can ONLY get the central-nervous-system-calming approach to money that
offers by going to her.
You can find ANY NUMBER of parrots jumping on the “corporate culture” bandwagon, but you can ONLY get the 20+ year expertise of a TRUE veteran in the space who was there WAY before it “caught on” by going to
.
You can get business coaching on any corner of any community in nearly any country. But you can ONLY get ME by coming here.
So, your real “enemies” in business are never “competitors.” They don’t matter. Your REAL enemies are two-fold:
— MEDIOCRITY and
— OBSCURITY.
I’ll cover obscurity in another article on another day. But MEDIOCRITY is something that ANYONE who wants to create REAL success on their own terms MUST come to terms with now.
Mediocrity = averageness, the ACT of being mediocre. Normal. NOTHING extraordinary.
And mediocrity is a SLIPPERY little enemy. It can seep into your day, your habits, your goals and your business QUICKLY. Here are some primary CAUSES of mediocrity that I see infiltrating the businesses of too many women entrepreneurs:
LEANING INTO THE PAST. Look, the best thing about the past — especially if it was a bad, sad or traumatic past — is that it’s over. Let it stay dead and buried. Mediocre people NURSE the past and rely on it to excuse their lack of success. Successful people are future-oriented.
LOOKING AROUND. Regardless of your industry, it won’t take long for you to find a PLETHORA of treadmillers. These people are enthusiastic and easy to find. They are cheering for each other, without EVER realizing they’re not going anywhere. They’re on the treadmill of business. Further reading: https://www.bmichellepippin.com/what-went-wrong-wednesday-im-stuck-on-the-treadmill-of-business/ Mediocre people give very little thought to who they hang around. Successful people are intentional about their circles… and AIM to up level those that impact them.
LACK OF CLEAR PURPOSE. True success isn’t for the faint of heart. There is MUCH that is required.. and Bottom-line: When you are NOT purpose-driven, it is WOEFULLY easy to be constantly-distracted and governed by emotions. (I.e. I don’t feel like it today, so I won’t.) The mediocre masses has made a freakin’ LINE DANCE of the stop-start-whine-stop-start-whine cycle. Please don’t join in.
TOO MANY “ISOLATED INSTANCES.” lol… The mediocre majority fail to see patterns. Instead they see REASONS. “I stopped this because _________________. I quit this launch because THIS happened. I decided not to do X because Y.” So, this isn’t a PATTERN of not backing myself or not following through because they ALL have their OWN reason I didn’t back myself for follow through. C’mon.
Successful people see our own patterns. We WANT to. Because when we see patterns that don’t serve us, we SERVE UP A PATTERN INTERRUPT. STAT.
(Side note: it is our PATTERNS that matter over time, our DAILY HABITS that create the success you see… NOT the isolated instances of luck or opportunity.)
LACK OF URGENCY. As I write this, I’m 43 years old. I THINK I have a lot of life left in me. I am healthy and come from hardy stock. I still bound out of bed every morning RARING to go and READY to make MY mark on the day.
But I am not deceived. I know life is short. I know that without a sense of urgency… an INTERNAL, INHERENT sense of urgency, I will die with some of my dreams still un-realized. Successful people find this unreasonable, abhorrent. So, we are DRIVEN by speed.
Do you recognize any of these tendencies towards mediocrity? Oh, because I saw ALL of them in myself.
I used the fact that my business was begun SO HUMBLY (with $50) to excuse my lack fo success. I used to surround myself with the mediocre, because it allowed me to fool myself about my own level of success. I felt BIG when I was a big fish in a teeny tiny pond. I tolerated a fuzzy vision that was obscured by right now financial need. I made excuses for my patterns and I kept promising myself LATER when ALL of my power was in the NOW.
So, if you see yourself in this post, but KNOW you are born for more… KNOW that you have GREATNESS inside of you, KNOW that you are capable of a THRIVING business and LIFE…
message me. I want to talk.
