For more than a decade, I’ve contended that the absolute best business advantage you can give your business is one you cannot buy or fake: to know your market intimately… to know your target market better than any of your competitors. This has been the cornerstone of my own business success, is the primary principle of my signature “Market with Muscle” presentation, and a VERY popular topic on this blog.
I think at this point — in the first quarter of 2016– most of our WOW members, as well as much of the business world at large accept that KNOWING your market intimately is necessary to their success. Unfortunately, many people I talk to think they know their market but don’t.
So, I’ve created this perfectly -timed, highly-political 2-step test to see how well YOU (really) know your ideal client. =) Here goes nothing:
Step One: Pick your least favorite Presidential Nominee.
Write down their name, and everything else you know about them. Where are they from? What do they stand for? Who are they mad at? What news channel do they watch? What are they passionate about? What irritates them? What do they read? What motivates them? Which celebrities do they align themselves with? What is his or her top guiding principle?
Step Two: Now, turn the page and find out if you know as much about your target market as you do your LEAST favorite Presidential Nominee.
