Boredom is a business killer.
Being boring is the ultimate “business sin.”
And RETAINING clients — over a long career:
- is the hallmark of true success; and
- hinges on your ability to keep them INTERESTED.
This — the law of INTEREST — is one of the most overlooked and misunderstood concepts relating to business success. And like ALL universal laws, it applies everywhere.
Take marriage.
I’ve been married for 19+ years.
Suffice it to say, I don’t fall into the “easy to love” category. I’m more of a “fun to love” woman. =) When Chris asked for my hand in marriage, my parents asked HIM if HE knew what he was getting into… lol…
They knew me.
I’m not easy.
I have a strong sense of self, my own moral code, and a ferocious spirit.
My husband has been furious with me, disappointed, frustrated and even depressed, but he has NEVER been bored.
When I lose my husband’s INTEREST…
or he loses mine,
we are in HUGE trouble.
And so I am HIGHLY invested in the Law of Interest.
The same is true in business.
I’ve been in business for 19 years.
I have clients / members today that have been with me for more than a decade.
I have members who have been with Women Who WOW since our VERY first meeting.
And at last check, the RETENTION rate for Women Who WOW is still hovering at around 78%… a near IMPOSSIBLE number according to most “experts.”
Why? I have their CONTINUED interest.
Do they agree with everything I say? Of course not.
Do they sometimes WONDER what in the living HECK I am thinking? I’m sure they do.
Do they roll their eyes at what is perceived as my naivety? Yep.
Do they stand — at times — mouth open at what I may say publicly? Yes.
But they are never bored.
They’re not ambivalent.
I DO have their interest, and THAT is critical.
Now, HOW does this happen exactly?
Interest….
Well, it is deliberate but not “made up.”
It’s intentional, but never fabricated.
It is not one incident or one shock-and-awe post, or one bold branding package or one nearly naked post, or one WHATEVER, but the LAW of interest — that SUSTAINS business —
snowballs,
day after day,
over time.
It begins… and builds…
with a daily commitment…
to being ruthlessly authentic…
a fear-busting habit of saying whatever it is that needs to be said, that BEGS to be said…
a rebellious UNWILLINGNESS to tame yourself even the teensiest bit.
Ruthless
Unapologetic
Authentic
You-ness.
THIS is what is interesting over time.
NOT a woman trying to stay true to a BRAND…
but a woman who IS the brand,
and allows herself to continuously grow and evolve,
willing to allow the world to see her STRETCH and SWEAT, and HUSTLE…
wiling to allow the market to see her both expand AND contract, to succeed AND fail.
A woman who is willing to be SEEN,
fully expressed.
THIS is a woman that can NEVER be boring.
Not to a man.
Not to a market.
Intimidating?
Infuriating?
Irritating, yes.
But not boring.
