Recently, on my personal page, someone shared an old video of their daughter at a softball game. She mentioned me because at ANY game ANY of my kids were playing in…
I was a clear and present cheerleader.
You see, I have always been a cheerleader. (This picture is of the day my Cheering team wore Tuxedos and did a full routine.) But mainly, I have always believed that cheerleaders had the ABILITY to influence the game.
I DEFINITELY knew that my kids (and some of their best friends) did BETTER when I was on the sidelines, shouting at them. I mean, how could they NOT? lol…
Anyway, a few people recently have mentioned that the entrepreneurs among us need a cheerleader… on the sidelines, shouting at them, reminding them what they came for and that they are ABLE…. cheering their name, cheering them on, and sharing the truth: VICTORY is within reach.
Enter: ME,
Cheerleader extraordinaire.
I’ve decided to share a few of my BEST KNOWN and MOST SHOUTED “chants” to spur YOU on today, no matter where you are in the world.
Chant #1: YOU GOT THIS!
Yup… a good old fashioned reminder that you have SOOOO got this, that you will do what it takes to succeed. IN times like these I want you to know that you have done tough things before, have navigated tough times before and will do it today.
Chant #2: PLAY LIKE YOU MEAN IT!
oh… nothing infuriated me more than to see my kids (or their teammates) show up like they’d rather be doing homework. If you’re gonna show up, show all the way up!! SWING like you mean it. RUN like you mean it! HIT like you mean it! SERVE like you mean it!
If you’re gonna show up, you need to show ALL the way up.
There’s NO acceptable time to “phone it in” in business, so a global crisis is CERTAINLY no time to barely show up. Go all in.
Chant #3: COME BACK TO US, LADY KNIGHTS! (Alternatively: WELCOME BACK LADY KNIGHTS!)
When I’d see the kids playing like a bunch of bozos, I’d shout “COME BACK TO US!” And when they would get their heads back on straight…make the plays that were actually ROUTINE for them… I’d simply welcome them back. “WELCOME BACK, LADY KNIGHTS!”
Don’t judge me. I shot straight with these kids. I cheered when they put in their best effort and called them out when they did not. I was not one of those parents who “sat back and watched.” The coaches called the plays. They taught the skills. I was good with that. But — even from the sidelines — I DEMANDED THOSE I LOVE PLAY WITH HEART.
And today I am asking entrepreneurs within my realm of influence to also play with heart, to come back to market as ALL of themselves, to not be marred in stress and worry, but to stand up and serve.
Moving on…
Chant #4: BIG EYES.
Interpretation: Go big! Swing for the fences.
Chant #5: HARD AND FAST, BABY… HARD AND FAST!
This is only relating to softball but I would often remind them to swing hard and fast. The basics. Sometimes we JUST need to remember the basics… that work.
Chant #6: THEY SING BETTER THAN THEY SWING.
So, this is one that is particularly funny and useful. I shouted it out when we were being beat by a softball team that cheered constantly. They sang their little chants NON-STOP and — frankly — I think it had our girls rattled.
So I stood up when it was quiet and shouted, “You’ve got this girls! They sing better than they swing!”
lol… BUT it was true! they were loud but not particularly good. They were annoyingly present but not particularly affective.
Today, there’s a LOT of noise
and WAY TOO FEW solid swings at bat.
Chant # 7: SHAKE IT OFF, LADIES.
We all make mistakes. When we get in our heads, we turn one mistake into a series of mistakes. So… if you’ve been hiding out, playing coy, paralyzed by anxiety, or otherwise somehow “messing up” in business — no sweat. Shake it off and come back to us!
What cheer do you need from me today? AND — what would it take to get you to join Women Who WOW??? Do you even KNOW what you GET from this membership? Message me. I’ll shoot you all the details!
