Admittedly, I’m a girl OBSESSED. And I’m not alone.
Simon Cowell — a name you know and a wildly successful and famous entrepreneur — is obsessed with work. Donald Trump, famously having very little interest in vacations… turning even his “hobbies” (i.e. golf) into profit-creating ventures. Dan Kennedy, obsessed with moneymaking. Warren Buffet, a mind always at work.
Always at work… on profit creation. Money making. Orchestrating big pay days.
Napoleon Hill defined it as “enthusiasm.” Relentless enthusiasm. An enthusiasm that wakes you up, keeps you up, and interrupts “regular” conversations as loudly as an ACTUAL elephant that suddenly entered the room.
And I am thrilled to be able to honestly say that I am — again — obsessed with my business. Kept up by its potential. Marveling at its momentum. Woken up with ideas SHOUTING at me and demanding my attention. I’m happy to say that there have been several long periods throughout the life of my business during which I’ve had this obsession, and my clear preference is that it remain constant.
Are there down sides to this obsession? YUP. My closest friends and family have complained or expressed concern that my “brain doesn’t seem to rest.” They’re not only right… MOST of them don’t even know the half of it. They don’t know my personal agony of feigning interest in that mundane shopping story… or how difficult it is for me to plug into typical social settings with casual chit chat. They don’t know exactly HOW restless my brain is. They don’t see the notes in my phone, the overflowing folder — still called Michelle, INC. — that houses my moneymaking ideas. They don’t know how I both dread and love that quarterly “appointment” where I go through this folder and both painstakingly and lovingly pick out the ONE new thing I’ll devote time to. They don’t know.
And that’s okay. I am — largely — a solitary animal. I have the inner core of WOW who “get me” because they’re also obsessed. =) They get me because they get “it.” To Ramona, Holli, Lori, Johnine, and Timorah: Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love each of you and love what has become “us.” To Laurie, we’ve plotted and planned, dreamed and schemed together a LONG time and are MOST obsessed. Gets better every year. xo
Bottom line: I’m happily relentlessly obsessed. This is MY thing. And, I believe it keeps me in the company of giants…. if maybe now only in spirit.
