There’s a dentist I know that has created raving fans… unpaid ambassadors for his work. One particular ambassador has (through me) brought in no less than $25K worth of work to this dentist… simply through her enthusiastic and passionate “raving fan-dom.”
Even though the same work may have cost as little as ONE-THIRD that amount had we chosen to go elsewhere.
So, I’ve been thinking about that a bit… and — this week — have been basking in the gratitude from my own “raving fans” (i.e. friends) which was received EXACTLY WHEN I NEEDED IT MOST.
So, how EXACTLY do you create raving fans of your own? Unpaid ambassadors who passionately convince people to work with you?
1) BECOME WORTH TALKING ABOUT.
The first thing you do is BECOME WORTH TALKING ABOUT. In other words, you simply CAN NOT just do what you do. You’ve got to be excellent. You’ve got to do whatever it is that you do in a way that inspires them. You’ve got to have “YOUR WAY,” vs. “the regular way.”
In other words, You’ve got to bring YOURSELF to the work that you do. HOW you do what you do has GOT to be markedly different than the way OTHERS do what “you do.”
So, what makes YOU worth talking about?
In the case of this dentist, he happens to be a meticulous dentist whose DENTAL skill set is actually — I think — superior to most others. BUT, why people hire him is how he makes them FEEL about the work being done.
He has a way of putting you at ease.
Brilliant at dentistry, sure…
but more brilliant at putting you at ease, and giving you a sense of confidence, about the work being done.

Define what makes YOU worth talking about and exaggerate it, call it out, put it on display!!
2) TALK TO THEM & LET THEM INTO YOUR WORLD.
Don’t expect people to be talking ABOUT you if you’re not talking TO them. You’ve got to get to know your people, your market. You’ve got to peak into their world, and let them into yours.
She who knows her market most intimately, WINS.
She who is KNOWN most intimately by her market, WINS.
And not just money.
With courageous intimacy and vulnerability and authenticity, you win their HEARTS.
This is where / how raving fans are created. So, how can you be more open, more transparent, more vulnerable with your market? Not just to BE known, but also…
to know THEM?
3) SERVE THEM.
Sales is synonymous with service.
You should CARE ENOUGH to
find out what they need,
digging deep if you must,
asking deeper questions than you currently are,
and uncover what they REALLY, REALLY need.
And then,
with a servants heart,
deliver.
Do this, and you will amass not only a throng of raving fans, but also a deeply rewarding and multi-faceted friendship with those you aim to serve.
