It’s no secret that I come from a long line of deer hunters. Now, I get it. But “back then” when I was a young girl, it devastated me. I’d write long letters to my Dad about how I couldn’t BELIEVE that MY DADDY was a murderer. A murderer of deer.
Yeah, I guess I was a BIT dramatic.
We lived way out — like, WAY OUT in rural Virginia. My trusted friend Courtney and I agreed to conspire against my Dad and other hunters in our area. Our plan was simple.
These hunters — my Dad included — would bait the deer with salt blocks…. luring them closer to their deer stands. So, Courtney and I would go behind them and remove their bait. Everything we could find.
We — Courtney and I — along with (now) many other state governments considered the BAITING of deer an unfair advantage to the hunters.
Fast forward 25 years or so and creating UNFAIR ADVANTAGES for myself and my clients is what I do.
I work with my clients to dramatically stack the odds in their favor. And my tool / strategy of choice: CONTENT.
CONTENT — when done right — can create an unfair advantage for you in your business. CONTENT — when done right — changes the game. See, you have two choices in business. You can:
1) Keep hunting for ideal clients… talking to too few who are ideal… and making the sale “uphill both ways in the snow.”
OR
2) Build a content-created sanctuary that your clients want to visit, soak in and tell others about.
I MUCH prefer the latter, but the choice is yours. Want cash, cash, cash? Great. Focus on content. Content. Content.
So, where do you start? Here’s a very anemic skeleton of a plan to get you going:
Step One: Find out what your target market DESPERATELY wants to know, learn about, read, and discuss. How do you find out? Well, you could ask. I’d start there. But then, also do your own research. What are the top selling books in your niche right now? That’s a great indicator to pay attention to.
Step Two: Decide where your content will live and show up. A blog on a self-hosted site is preferable. But also look for other high traffic areas to show up: other people’s blogs, magazines, online forums, YouTube, etc.
Step Three: Share the content liberally — across ALL social media channels, and ask others to help you share it. Have a would-be or should-be client you’d like to land? Well, send them a blog post that is highly relevant for them. Let them see how you think.
Blogging several times a week is preferable. Content is THAT important. But, don’t NOT START because you can’t blog several times a week. Aim for once a week… and get that content engine going. It becomes easier as you do it more often. In my upcoming “6 months to 6 Figures” Intensive I’m hosting for Coaches and Experts, I’ll be revealing my personal content creation system. Simple. Do-able. Fun. Profitable.
Before you go, are you willing to say you WANT to create an UNFAIR ADVANTAGE for your business? If so, post your intention below. Share it with the world on facebook. But do SOMETHING with that intention, so it becomes more “real” than just a “note to self.”
As always, I’m rooting for you!
