At Virginia Tech, I learned about Darwin’s Theory of Evolution… and fought hard to reconcile science with my faith – but that’s another blog post entirely! =) Anyway, I learned of Darwin’s Theory and as I continue to dive deeper and deeper into this world of entrepreneurial adventure, there are two points that continue to come back to me:
1) Darwin’s theory stated that it wasn’t exactly the STRONGEST species that survive, but the ones most able to adapt to current conditions. This is certainly true in BUSINESS. It’s not the best funded or largest or most known companies that thrive…. (Look at the Big Names biting the dust and being swallowed up by the competition!) but the ones that are AGILE enough to adapt to current conditions. Ladies, we are in control of this…. how well we adapt. It’s what makes small business so impressively resilient! How agile we are in creating change that best serves our clients and best positions us for success is where our business STRENGTH lies.
2) He also made note that successful species were able to leverage just slight variances for their advantage. Again, the same is true for our businesses. As small business owners, we need to have the “use it up, ring it out, use it again” mentality…. Leveraging EVERYTHING for our advantage. POUNCING on opportunities. SEIZING and CREATING that slight advantage… Because it matters!
Now, rumor has it Darwin changed some of his views closer to his death…. We’ll never know. But these theories stand TRUE for business today! How will you be FIT enough to THRIVE today???
