nothing huge,
but a piece of content
about what 20 years of marriage has taught me about business.
On June 19th, Chris and I will celebrate our 20 year anniversary. At 42 years old, we’re now on the other side of the first wave of divorces to hit our social circles. Because I’m a watcher (of people) I was curious to see how these things unfolded.
In nearly EVERY divorce,
sex was an issue.
More precisely, they didn’t have it.
Another issue: The spouses were married, but they were NOT really friends. They ALWAYS preferred to be around other people, VERY little 1:1 time was desired.
But also…. divorce seemed to be contagious.
When one spouse had a friend that got divorced, it seemed to embolden them, perhaps to make the decision they had been putting off anyway, but still…..
Research shows that you are 147% more likely to divorce if you have MORE THAN ONE divorced friend in your social network. I’m not suggesting you abandon your friend going through a divorce (obviously) but I AM suggesting you take a powerful and thoughtful look at what ELSE may be be contagious.
Here’s my (incomplete) list:
Sloth.
Mediocrity.
Weight Gain. (& Loss)
Living standards.
Boat Ownership.
Discontent.
And SUCCESS.
Even the most independent among entrepreneurs ARE influenced by those you hang around most. This is fascinating to me, and instructive.
There’s a certain “high tide raises all boats” thing going on with Women Who WOW. We are UPleveling like CRAZY. Earning more. Being more visible. “all of the sudden” being IN DEMAND. Members are navigating huge opportunities, raking in big pay days.
And the more it happens,
the more it happens.
The more successful one member gets,
the more successful / profitable / visible the other members get.
And SUCCESS
is running RAMPANT
in our tribe.
I stand amazed,
at the AUDACITY of our members.
At how they are DARING GREATLY.
At how success is hopping from one person to the next, like an airborne virus.
I am beyond thrilled
and proud
and humbled.
