I spoke on this at the SISTA Conference this past weekend. (Sisters Inspiring Sisters to Advance.) As a gift, I offered these women the SISTA Sales Bundle with $1979 of my best sales trainings. But I promised them that they wouldn’t REALLY need the bundle if they would ONLY embrace what I shared with them on Saturday, and what I’m sharing with you now. I stand by that comment.)

Now, back to the sales training. Here are three principles that you NEED to embrace if you want selling to be FAR easier, far more natural and far more profitable for you.
PRINCIPLE #1: MONEY MATTERS.
There’s no getting around this one. Money is important. It determines what health care options are available to us, how effectively we can fight in a court of law should we ever need that, where we live, where our kids can go to school and so much more. And if you’re an entrepreneur, SELLING is how you make money. So, money and selling MATTER. It is what it is, so you might as well get really good at it.
PRINCIPLE #2: SELLING IS AN ACT OF GENEROSITY.
Selling, especially INVITATIONAL selling, which is what I DO and TEACH, is an act of generosity and inclusiveness. When you’re calling out your offer, invite people to join you. Many times, they haven’t pre-judged YOU as not enough, they’ve pre-judged themselves as not enough. So, be generous. If you have an offer that helps people, TELL THEM. Selling is generous and NOT SELLING is selfish. Period.
PRINCIPLE #3: IF YOU WOULDN’T DO IT TO GET A MAN, DON’T DO IT TO GET A SALE.
Do I need to go into this any further? I hope not. Because selling the way I teach will NEVER have you chasing, acting “thirsty,” or being something that you’re not. But the principle is simple: If you wouldn’t do it to get a man, don’t do it to get a sale.
Now, if you can embrace these simple principles about selling — and they ARE indeed principles, true no matter where they are applied — here’s what happens:
YOU WILL ELIMINATE THE CHASE.
Look, if you are chasing something, by definition, it is RUNNING from you. What I teach helps women POSITION themselves so that prospects come to them, and — often — bring their friends.
YOU WILL ELIMINATE TIMIDITY.
YOU WILL ELIMINATE THE NEED FOR SCRIPTS. I disagree with my mentor on this one, which is fine. But scripts are WEAK compared to standing in your own power and using invitation marketing and walk away selling. If you’re positioned well, if you’ve packaged your offer clearly, if you’re DOING THE WORK of getting on other people’s stages and pages consistently… you won’t need the words of someone else to “convince” someone to buy from you.
I mean, would you use some silly script
to “convince” a man to stay with you?
Dear God, I hope not.
If he doesn’t want to stay,
send him on his way.
Take the same approach with selling.
IT ELIMINATES THE NEED FOR ANY PRETENSE.
Again, back to the man analogy… if there was some coach out there trying to sell a “system” where you essentially catfished a man using fake pictures, borrowed scripts and a bunch of PRETEND junk, hopefully you’d run in the other direction.
BUT there is a LARGE part of our industry doing something similar…. actually ENCOURAGING you to lie, to pretend, or to go into debt to play some role that will “convince” people you’re good enough to do business with.
Can you imagine?
When you actually EMBRACE the principles I laid out above, all of this is no longer necessary for you. Let’s move on to what these three simple principles ACCENTUATE in your business… when you embrace them:
FIRST, YOU GET TO CHOOSE WELL.
When you’re no longer hustling so hard to get ANYONE’s attention, you get to choose deliberately. Again, back to the man example… if your best friend was dating only losers, EVENTUALLY she’ll start getting down on HERSELF. What would you tell her? You’d tell her simply that her PICKER is off, right?
Same here. Choose well. Target people that you respect, those that you KNOW you can help and will ENJOY doing business with. Choosing well is half the battle.
NEXT, THESE PRINCIPLES WILL GET YOU INTO AUTHENTIC CONVERSATIONS.
None of the standard and often silly B.S. No more of this coach – speak where no one REALLY knows what you’re talking about. No more separation between who you are in “life” and who you are in business… you just to get to BE.
Conversations lead to cash.
AUTHENTIC conversations lead to faster and more sustainable cash, with WAY less angst and effort.
YOU’LL BE LED TO “PRESCRIBE” HONESTLY.
Because you’re selling to people you respect, and because you know that they have a problem you can help them with, you’ll be LED (out of personal integrity) to “prescribe” what you’d recommend for them.
No more beating around a bush or constantly pushing them into a 14-point funnel. You’ll just be able to say, HONESTLY, “based on what you’ve shared with me, I recommend we start with ___________________.” Oh … if only more women KNEW how simple sales could be and how SILLY it is to constantly NOT sell all while TRYING to do the “online thing” that’s supposed to sell…
I’m just saying, it CAN be EASY and RELATIONAL and fun.
FINALLY, THESE PRINCIPLES WILL LEAD YOU TO FAITHFUL FOLLOW UP.
No, not chasing. Relational follow up. And you know what? Do this right and it won’t always be YOU following up with them. It will be THEM reaching out to you… those not ready to buy yet will keep coming back.. asking questions, “kicking tires,” so to speak… all while learning to trust you until they’re ready.
THIS is how selling gets to be EASY.
THIS is how it gets to be consistent.
THIS is how it gets to be something you LOVE doing.
