I get asked about this from time to time, and I’m not quite sure how to answer. All the time? Hardly ever? I guess it depends on how you define “work.”
For instance, every morning begins the same for me.
Coffee.
Bible.
Journal.
Write the #EntrepreneurialEspresso post for my Women Who WOW members.
Work out.
Write my public message for the day.
Create any paid content I need to create, if that’s applicable.
Respond to emails.
This brings me to about 11 AM EST. 5 hours?
Sometimes all the way up until NOON.
How much of THAT is considered “work?”
All of it, I guess.
Or maybe none of it.
I don’t even know any more.
I blog and create MASSIVE amounts of written content because i’m a writer. I literally can’t not. Some girls become “cutters” to LET STUFF OUT… to RELEASE THE PRESSURE of the day … I became a writer.
My content for EACH day comes OUT of my Bible time and journaling session. My work out not only takes care of the boss, but also fuels my content. So, do I count that time as work time? Who knows?
Often, I get my most inspired ideas at night…
while in my already magnificent master bath.
And then hop out to ACTION it immediately.
If this is WORK,
Maybe they’ll let me write off my bath remodel?
So, how much do I work?
Who knows?
Let me tell you about today.
I started the day exactly as I do every other day.
Only, I skipped working out.
Instead,
I took my oldest daughter to the chiropractor,
then out to breakfast,
then to one more appointment,
and to pick out new eyeglasses,
then to go shopping.
(We had a GREAT time.
Sure, we had stuff we HAD to do, but it was all woven together… we laughed, shared, caught up, told secrets, encouraged each other, had fun. And also, got the medical stuff done. How much time was spent on MUSt DO stuff? I don’t know. All of it? None of it?)
Then, I dropped her off and came back home for 3 appointments with my Birthing an Empire members. Appointments I’d looked SO forward to.
In each 60-minute long session,
we talked business,
and life.
We LAUGHED,
once, nearly to tears. (Denise Hughes)
We shared spiritual truths.
We talked weight loss,
money,
marriage.
(Shelley Smith, Alice Edgerton)
And we brought it back to actionable business stuff.
How much of each call was “work” with “clients?”
and how much was PLAY with FRIENDS?
Who knows?
All of it? None of it?
And I think that’s my point.
I’ve woven my life into QUITE the
— dare I just say it–
BEAUTIFUL
tapestry.
How much do I work?
I have no freaking clue.
It’s been SOOOO long since I thought of my work as work, to be honest. Last week, I was “caught” doing consulting calls from the pool. (The chirping birds gave it away.) (Lindsay Satterfield) Today, I was able to spend 1/2 the day with my oldest, some fun time with my middle, and looking forward to a night with my son tonight.
Bottom line:
Is YOUR work
CAREFULLY DESIGNED
by YOU
to NOT feel like work?
If not, message me. We need to fix this. STAT.
