Look, I sell Women Who WOW. But I am under NO ILLUSION that women entrepreneurs are coming into 2019 thinking, “YOU KNOW WHAT I NEED…. ANOTHER GROUP.”
Lord, I wish this was the case, right?
The same way I used to wish that people would wake up with the idea,
“DANG I NEED A BUSINESS COACH.”

They didn’t.
Of course, they DID wake up thinking about something. 🌝 They DID wake up thinking about their bottom line,
Increasing it.
🌝They did wake up thinking about their competitors… WHY it seemed like THEY were getting all the breaks.
🌝They did wake up wondering if they’d EVER make it to the top of the hill… wanting OUT of the feeling they went to bed with, which was,
NO MATTER HOW FAST I RUN, I ONLY MAKE IT TO “ALMOST” AND THEN… I ROLL BACK DOWN,
EXHAUSTED.
DEFEATED.
Dare I say it,
admit it,
ASHAMED.
So, they WERE waking up with thoughts that I could help them with, problems I could solve. But they may NOT — and often didn’t– immediately jump to the idea that they needed a business coach.
Many, first started thinking of a leads group,
or a digital ad,
or maybe getting THAT MAGIC (NEXT) CERTIFICATION that would FINALLY allow them to be in DEMAND…
When they talked to their friends or colleagues or networking buddies, they got an ARRAY of solutions.
❌ The website designer said she needed a new website. Surely, THIS would generate the leads she wanted and make her look “worth buying.”
❌The life coach said she needed to work on herself so that her ENERGY would be more magnetic.
❌ The google adwords guy (who came to the door without an appointment, door knocking to sell a digital ad #ironic) said she needed an ad, reminding her that it takes money to make money.
❌The photographer said she needed a re-brand, and offered to give her 10% a new branding package.
You get my point. Everywhere she turned, there was another option,
another something to TRY,
in hopes of building her bottom line,
her business,
her brand,
and DEMAND for her work. **check comments below for more on this.**
Anywho, How I SOLD business coaching, was in acknowledging that hiring a business coach wasn’t the tangible, YOU NEED THIS, automatic solution to the thoughts she was waking up to.
I acknowledged it — first — to myself.
And then, I re-engineered my packaging. …
🤮 I didn’t talk about the “benefits of coaching,” #yawn.
🤮 I didn’t regurgitate how “the best in any industry hire coaches.”
🤮 I didn’t point her to my packages and ask her to pick one.
No, I first acknowledged how — despite her OBVIOUS expertise in HER area of excellence — she wasn’t alone in being conflicted regarding what she actually DID need.
Then, I pointed out the INCOMPLETENESS of any ONE solution. In other words, she needed more clients. I explained how business worked, how:
❌ A new website would only work if she knew how to get people to it.
❌New headshots could only be monetized if she KNEW the ins and outs of marketing herself as a brand.
❌A google ad was only as good as the funnel it put people into.
I pointed out that ALL of these hinged on STRATEGY and MESSAGING. PERIOD.
I didn’t dishonor these options as “not effective.” I simply pointed out that their effectiveness HINGED on effective strategy and messaging. Which is true. 100% of the time. Period.
And in so doing,
I was able to take her to an awareness of how STRATEGY is where she should start…. how STRATEGY guaranteed any other investment she needed to make in her business.
Do you see?
She didn’t wake up thinking,
“I Need a business coach.”
I had to be DELIBERATE about entering the conversations 1) in her head and 2) in her life.
And I had to be DELIBERATE about positioning MY services as the next logical investment she should make.
TOO MANY BUSINESSES TODAY
NEVER MAKE THE EFFORT TO DO THIS.
They sell in some one-size-fits-all way,
and it simply does not work.
Do this for your bottom line,
but also
do this for your market.
That person in front of you
WANTS your help.
They need it.
They HATE waking up with the same old problems. They want to escape whatever problem you solve,
and YOU can help them.
They just may not know it yet.
So, take the time to position YOUR work as a SOLUTION,
as the NEXT logical step for them to take.
Make it YOUR responsibility,
your ethical obligation
to show them HOW you can solve their problem.
