I heard this the other day and I have actually heard it hundreds of times in my role as a proud mentor of driven women entrepreneurs. Content IS my thing I love it and it loves me. My content is a literal library of sales-generating robots. They are unleashed FIRST, distributed NEXT and then archived in an ACTIVE system of cash-creating content funnels.

BUT, content. I always ask what PURPOSE an expert has assigned to their content. What deliberate goal have you ASSIGNED your content to accomplish?
So, if that answer is “I want to produce thought provoking content,” the expert — and her content — is immediately at a disadvantage. Why?
1) You can’t measure how much thought you are provoking, so how will you ever know if your efforts are working?
2) You are building in an unnecessary step in your marketing funnel. IF you could tell when you “provoked thought,” what would your content THEN need to do?
3) “Thought provoking” content TRAINS your market to be CONSUMERS and not customers.
and mainly…
If my ONLY goal is to be “thought provoking,” i’m fine creating content “when I feel like it.” To be “thought provoking” doesn’t REQUIRE vulnerability and courage and emotion in the writing. It can just “present” something.
But when the content MISSION changes to: I WANT my content to inspire change, compel action, challenge the status quo… THAT lights a fire under my butt. THAT is measurable, palpable and that mission overcomes writers block EVERY morning.

I want my content to COMPEL ____________.
I want my content to INSPIRE ________________.
I want my content to CHALLENGE _______________.
Example from my own business: I want my content to COMPEL women off of the fence so they can actively pursue their biggest dreams. I want my content to INSPIRE women with their own potential… I want to CHALLENGE their tolerance level for mediocrity in any and every area of their lives. I want my content to REMIND them of who they are and who they were born to be. I want my content to SHOW how WILD success can be simple and is possible for THEM.
THIS gets me out of bed every morning….

So, what about YOU???? What do you WANT to do with your content? What is the HEART behind YOUR content? Is it OBVIOUS? Is it MOTIVATING (to you)?
Once you have your content MISSION,
then you simply have to add ONE thing to create cash:
You just tell them WHAT’s NEXT.
You let them know where else they can be helped, how YOU can help them and how to continue the conversation you began with your article, podcast or video. (A call to action.)
Simple.
Direct.
Profitable.
AND INCREDIBLY SATISFYING.
