I went for a solo hike (my favorite kind) yesterday and while I had no real destination, no time limits or expectations, it was definitely a hike that mattered.
As long as I can remember, the woods have always been a sanctuary for me. Whether I arrived with righteous anger, blind fury, crippling anxiety or my deepest hurts, the forest never responded to me with accusations of being “too much” or “too sensitive” or “making it up.” And for that, I am deeply grateful. I will never live far from a natural escape into the solitude of the woods.
But yesterday, I set out on the trails with nothing but excitement and gratitude for all that’s in my life. It was a worship walk. And it — the walk, the worship, the woods — mattered.
So when I came across the first tree blocking my path I simply jumped over it. When I came across the next, I walked around it. Same with the third. And at NO time did I consider turning back.
Because it mattered.
But I sometimes run into women in business who must feel differently… about their business anyway. Because they start out on the entrepreneurial path… only to turn back when they see an obstacle in the distance. And I hear their reasoning, at least the reasoning they say out loud…
Whether it’s about a launch or about a specific goal or about going all in or about their business as a whole… once they see an obstacle in the distance they will reason something about it being a “sign.” AND then… the trusty fallacy of “timing” will make its way into the conversation. Some marriage of “wrong timing” thinking and “definitely, next time” promises. But either way, they turn back.
But here’s the deal. SOME obstacles are there to teach us something… to help us BETTER navigate the path. But other obstacles, woman… they’re just there to TEST YOUR WILL.
To allow you the HONOR, the PRIVILEGE, the CHOICE
to fully back yourself,
or not.
No lesson. Just pure grit, pure will, pure stick-to-it-tiveness.
And if it matters,
your business,
your dreams,
your goals,
your destiny,
your potential…
your purpose….
if it REALLY matters,
the world will know,
by whether you PRESS on or TURN BACK.
So does your business success REALLY matter to you?
Because mine does, and always has. Initially, my success was what determined whether I stayed home or had to put my kids in daycare. Later, the success of my business determined whether my kids could attend private school, and whether I had options when it came to my children’s healthcare… whether my daughter had to get student loans for college… or not.
But also… my success matters to ME. It matters because while death will find all of us one day, I am determined to die feeling SPENT. All my talent, all my potential, all my impact having been poured out over my life. Nothing left, nothing saved, nothing UN-developed. My success matters because I have a purpose: To help women live FULLY empowered AND FULLY expressed. And I REFUSE to shrink back in my calling.
So today… on this Labor Day….
on this day CELEBRATING the many contributions of American workers,
I ask you:
Does YOUR work matter?
Does it matter enough to PRESS on when your first instinct may be to TURN back? Because if it does… if it REALLY matters, there’s zero chance that an obstacle — any obstacle — can turn you around.
P.S. Now is an amazing time to join Women Who WOW. Message me for details.
