Being an entrepreneur takes tremendous guts. You have to break ties with the VERY CONDITIONED belief that a paycheck signed by someone else is somehow more secure, more guaranteed, more responsible than the paycheck you sign yourself.
And there’s the pressure.
It’s one thing to have a guaranteed paycheck that comes in like clockwork but doesn’t QUITE stretch… and quite another to not know where the next money or where the next big money is coming from.
I KNOW this pressure.
I have lived it.
Bought the hat and t-shirt.
hated them both. 😊
I hated not having money,
counting the cost of every option,
stressing at night about whether the check was REALLY in the mail and
whether or not I could get it to the bank before 2 PM and also… of course,
whether the bank would “place a hold on it.”
But what I hated MORE during that time was the blatant disrespect. I hated being ignored. I hated knowing I could help someone and them dismissing me as nobody worth listening to. I hated the “follow up,” and the wondering, “are they REALLY considering working with me or did they just say that?” “Was it really a maybe or are they a firm NO and don’t want to tell me?”
I hated feeling SO HOOKED on their answer.
I hated NEEDING the yes.
I hated the absolute disrespect of being totally ghosted, ESPECIALLY after someone would commit to working with me.
But the thing is…
All of this is avoidable.
I just didn’t know it yet.
All of it was my fault, ultimately.
I just wasn’t ready to see it yet.
And I hate seeing other women where I was.
💥 If you are always invited to PAY to be in a room, but never PAID to be there… even when you KNOW that you’ve got so much to offer…
(Same goes for those pay to pay media features, woman… if you’re always having to pay and your media is never earned… well, keep reading. Please.)
💥 If you have to perform EVERYTHING perfectly, like everything must be a sales performance, like showing up COMPLETELY yourself will somehow not be “enough;”
💥 I you feel ignored, unseen and KNOW that if they SAW your value, they’d pay to work with you.. but somehow, they don’t see it.
💥 If you feel like you’re constantly chasing… pretending you AREN’T chasing, even as you’re breathlessly “checking in” on a prospect…
💥 If you find yourself wondering about the “right words” to say to bring them to a YES;
💥 If you’re SO grateful when you DO get a client, that you slip easily into them making the rules…
LOOK: There IS power in profit.
and EmPOWERment too.
All of this goes away when you have more people who WANT to work with you than you can possibly serve. When you have more people asking for your time… when you have people emailing about “whatever you have available,” all of this goes away.
