Anyone can sing in the shower.
Even me, and I’m an awful singer. So, try it. Close the doors in your bathroom and sing away. You’ll find that your voice is MUCH BETTER in the bathroom.
Why?
First, because the acoustics are excellent in a bathroom. That’s just a fact. I don’t know the science behind it but it has to do with your bathroom serving as a mini- and low-budget sound studio.
Basically, the conditions in your bathroom are IDEAL for showcasing the BEST of your voice.
More importantly, though, you’re in the shower alone. You’ve got no one watching. You’re not risking the public humiliation of someone hearing you croak out your latest greatest tune. No pressure. No hesitation. No timidity. You’re singing a SONG YOU LOVE and you’re BELTING that sucker out. And you’re unconcerned about taking your voice “public.”
THIS singing in the shower phenomenon — and paradox — is what derails so many businesses.
We PLAN in a perfect, protected, utopian environment… in the theatre of our minds… where we are stars, where ideal clients flock to our doors, where our messages are met with standing ovations and where our books break sales records overnight.
This is all fine and good.
Frankly, I encourage it. BUT, you must (MUST) do what you can to create a real-world utopia for your business to grow. What ONE thing can you do this week to create a perfect little incubator for your business goals? JUST for this week? The same way a common bathroom is ideal for showcasing your voice, what one thing can you do / create / change / implement that is ideal for achieving your business goals?
See, we plan in utopia and then get discouraged when we unleash our business into the big bad world without a plan to protect it from the “elements” — out on the battlefield of business.
Next, just as I am proud of how I sing in the shower and — um, I’ll just call it “reluctant” — to sing in public… so many business owners have BIG DREAMS in the “shower” of their mind when they’re planning, but are reluctant and unwilling to GO BIG once they’re in the real world.
They plan BIG and act SMALL as soon as the proverbial shower doors are open.
How dare we.
Here’s to planning BIG… and then HONORING that BIG GOAL with mind-boggling action.
