Yesterday, with my hand holding his, my Grandad took his last breaths. His eyes were closed, but very wet. I told him, “Grandad, everything is as it should be, man. Your entire family has been here all night by your side, and right now, it’s just me and you — and you’re doing good, Grandad. You’ve impacted so many people, and you’ll be so missed, but where you’re going, you’ll miss nothing. I love you, Grandad. You’re not afraid, and there’s nothing left to do but rest.” With that, he quite literally, “gave up the ghost.”
Within 24 hours, there was a post on facebook that I took down — NOT because of how I felt about it, but because of how others were reacting to the treasured client who sent it. This post celebrated a big win in business.
Let me take a minute to say something publicly: I would like to say thank you to all of my clients, mastermind members, chapter members, and more for your outpouring of heart-filled condolences for the passing of my Grandad. You know I have joked about him, ranted about him and told stories about him. MANY of you feel like you know him by proxy. Your support has been amazing.
Among the many emails and cards and text messages, I have received a few — one posted on facebook celebrating a HUGE contract “landed”, another email reporting her first FOUR FIGURE DAY in business, and one reporting GREAT sales numbers. One even said, after reporting the amount she earned in one day
“I am seeing dollar signs now. Thought you could use some happy news.”
Inappropriate? NO WAY.
I smiled a toothy grin at their wins. My heart was WARMED that they didn’t “spare” me their celebratory emails or posts simply because my office was “closed.” I am THRILLED to see — in all ways — how inter-connected my life is with the life and business of my clients. So, thank you. Thank you. Thank you. And, of course, congratulations.
As always, I am honored and humbled to stand among you. Shoulder to shoulder, we boldly enter the battlefield of business. And, shoulder to shoulder we win. In life. In friendship. In business.
This thing we’ve created — #womenwhowow — is a matter of collective brilliance, commitment and courage. I am encouraged and excited to see the next chapters unfold for us all. Until next week, friends… keep the emails (of ALL sorts) coming.
