The REAL business school never accepts applications. You just SHOW UP, willing to work… with a fire in your belly and hell in your eyes. You just SHOW UP with an idea and a willingness to serve… You just SHOW UP with the audacity to bet on yourself… and the TENACITY to figure it out no matter what.
No application process.
No “get your ducks in a row” and come back later.
No, “connect the dots” and get your sticker bull crap.
This is the REAL WORLD.
And WE are the job creators,
gutting it out on the streets of Main Street America.
Taking risks.
Forgoing the “CERTAIN” path of a J-O-B
and creating something out of nothing.
So, forgive me if I get a little triggered when I see “business schools” walking bright eyed treps through a series of “off the shelf,” carefully choreographed preparation steps.
Follow this system, they say.
Go through each module, they say.
Follow it STEP by STEP, they say.
AS IF this step-by-step-by-painfully- obvious-step routine — which is TOO slow for the speed of business and too RIGID for the FLEX that business DEMANDS every single hour — could EVER catapult you WAY further than you are right now.
OH — and my favorite part?
“Will I be able to TALK to the creator of this magnificent training series?” NO, friend… no you won’t. But you can speak all you want to his or her dutiful EMPLOYEES who are getting paid an hourly wage to work with you.
I am SERIOUSLY hoping you get the irony there. C’mon, people. Why would I take advice on my BUSINESS from someone who is still working for someone else???
The Dean of Entrepreneurship, who has never run a business…
The “book coach” / full time employee who coaches others but has never written a book themselves.
The never-been-married Priest giving marital advice.
The parenting coach who — not even kidding — doesn’t have any kids.
I just turned down a program that I thought I wanted to do. it was something to support my upcoming book, “Without Compromise: The Women Who WOW Manifesto.” The cost was $8K… and some employees of the MAIN GUY would “coach” me through some issues relating to my book.
“have they ever written or marketed a book?”
“Um, what? The coaches?”
“Yeah… the people who would be coaching ME on this book promotion… have they ever done it themselves?”
“well… no. But if you don’t like the coach you’re assigned to, we can get you another one.”
Me thinks you may have missed my point.
Moving on…

talk like me,
follow the rules, and the steps…

Frankly, it sickens me.
Business isn’t about staying in the lines
and following someone else’s system.
Do THAT and you’ll end up with a lame photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy of someone else’s success that — EVEN IF IT WORKS — leaves you ankle chained to a “success” that you don’t EVEN LIKE.
What to do instead???
Look at the RHYTHMS of successful people.
Watch what they DO DAILY and consistently…
Learn the NUANCES that DRIVE their behavior…
Pay them to gain access to their THINKING….
and if they don’t HONOR YOU
as the ENGINE of your custom-made success..
RUN.
This is YOUR business,
built around YOU.
That’s how it started, right?
Don’t abdicate your success to some “business school in a box.” This is BUSY WORK. Prep work…
… akin to the “business school taking applications.”
The world of business takes no APPLICATIONS.
