STEP 1: NAME & CLAIM YOUR **TRUE** MASTERY
I have a secret pet peeve. It’s when people ask me what they should be coaching on, or what they should make their “niche.” As if they can just pick something out of the air and all of sudden be the expert in THAT. THIS is how we end up with a slew of charlatans parading as experts. Yuck.
It’s out of integrity and it WILL NOT WORK for long.
You shouldn’t
and don’t have to
INVENT a niched topic.
I KNOW ONE thing.
My expertise is an inch wide, but a mile deep,
which is… INCIDENTALLY
how it should be.
I make no effort to try to stay up to date on every new technical trend or CRM start up. I don’t spend my focus on learning bitcoin or whatever else is bright and shiny. MY niche is to empower and equip women entrepreneurs to make MORE money on their own terms without compromising the things that are most important to them.
That’s it and that’s all.
THIS is why my niche,
my focus,
my brand has ONLY deepened but never changed…
in ALL THESE YEARS.
When you operate out of your TRUE level of mastery, your band will grow and stand the test of time.
The TOOLS I use and have — since — mastered include content marketing, journaling, mindset work, effective selling and more…
but my NICHE?
My area of MASTERY…
is not a moving target.
So, let’s identify yours.
What do you LOVE to learn about?
What could you TALK ABOUT for hours?
What tool, strategy, process have YOU truly MASTERED?
Once you identify the intersection of THESE points,
take it a very critical step forward and identify YOUR viewpoint on that area of mastery.
Where do you differ from nearly everyone else?
What is UNIQUE about your viewpoint, approach, etc.?
STEP 2: CHOOSE YOUR MARKET BASED ON THE 4 CORNERSTONES OF “THE RIGHT AUDIENCE.”
The right audience
⭐️ needs help with what you have mastered,
⭐️ KNOW they need help with what you’ve mastered,
⭐️ are WILLING to pay for this help, and
⭐️ are ABLE to pay for this help.
If your chosen market doesn’t meet ALL four of these cornerstones, do not change your focus / area of mastery. CHANGE YOUR MARKET.
I began this coaching thinking I’d coach other professional women who were moms looking to work from home. I had TRUE mastery what was (then) a relatively unknown skill, which was the ability to create professional opportunities working from home.
Back then, you heard RUMORS of people working from home, but probably didn’t PERSONALLY know anyone who did such a thing.
I had REPLACED my former full time income, WHILE working from home without the benefit (back then) of a website or networking groups or even a chamber membership. So, I had the mastery.
And TONS of women
according to the threads I found on the internet
said they WANTED to work from home when they became new moms.
MANY said they needed help learning HOW to replace their income. There certainly weren’t many people offering such help.
And they were ABLE to pay. After all, they were working full time or had husbands who had jobs that were very lucrative.
But they were NOT willing to pay.
They were a market I was PASSIONATE about, but I had to shift… so I could apply my mastery to a market willing and able to pay for it. This turned out to be a market of women entrepreneurs who had already made the leap, and were ABSOLUTELY COMMITTED to commercial success.
Bonus: Choose a market that is ALSO ⭐️easy to reach, preferably ⭐️in masse. (i.e. they attend the same conferences or read the same journals or listen to the same podcast, allowing you to find them and reach them more easily and with less effort.)

STEP 3: GET TO KNOW THEM INTIMATELY.
She who knows her market most intimately wins.
I’ve written extensively about what you should know about your target market and am including a couple links for further reading below.
But, the more you know about your market,
⭐️how they think,
⭐️ what they need,
⭐️how they DEFINE and DESCRIBE what they need,
⭐️ what keeps them up at night,
⭐️ who they hate,
⭐️ WHAT they hate,
⭐️ what they secretly wish for,
⭐️what problems they’re experiencing, etc….
the more prolifically you can speak to them. The more you know, the more you can get in their heads, create offers they can’t refuse, tap into their REAL goals and anchor your brand to the desires of their heart.

STEP 4: UNCOVER THE MILESTONES THEY WANT, MISHAPS THEY’VE ENDURED AND MONEY THEY’VE WASTED ON THEIR JOURNEY.
People invest money in solutions that either help them get MORE of what they want or help them AVOID circumstances they don’t want or no longer find tolerable. So, you’ve got to uncover, and then TALK DIRECTLY TO…
⭐️ the things that your market REALLY desires, maybe even SECRETLY desires… and also
⭐️ to the mishaps that have caused them so much frustration; AND
⭐️ the money they’ve wasted on solutions that didn’t work.
Message openly about these things. Shine light on the mishaps and the wasted money…. exposing why it’s not their fault, and how you have perhaps taken that same journey… what you learned from it and why your work is different… which leads me to….
STEP 5: CREATE A TANGIBLE OFFER THAT SOLVES A PROBLEM.
This is where I got lost for way too long. I knew I’d mastered the ability to make money in business, even make big money and fast money in business, while NEVER spending a dime on advertising… while never attending the first networking meeting… even BEFORE social media.
But, I was LOST in this little belief that my work was special… that MY work was far too nuanced to put into a system. As a result, I lost out on potential clients who NEEDED to see some sketch of the tangible … but far more critical, I lost out — for too many years — on income streams that DELIVERED my system in a way that was proven and replicable:
Online Courses,
Online Programs,
Membership sites, etc.

STEP 6: CREATE AND MAINTAIN YOUR LIST OF 50.
I am woefully under impressed when people tell me about their HUGE list size. =) If you’ve got a following of 360K, but only have a 1% conversion rate… OR LESS… you’re leaving a TON of profit on the table.
I used to have what I referred to as my “secret clients.” People who came to me for coaching, but would NEVER admit to doing so… because they were quasi-famous, certainly KNOWN, and many times they were known due to their “success.” =) =)
I have learned that no matter the size of your email list, if you want to generate cash NOW, you’ve got to be willing to make a list of 50.
50 people,
whom you can
and are WILLING to
contact by phone or email or mail,
and ask them to buy from you.
50 people.
When one says yes, you cross off their name and replace it with another.
When another says no, you cross off their name and replace it with another.
This is active selling,
toe to toe selling,
nose to nose selling.
And yes, it can be intimidating,
but once you master it,
it is INCREDIBLY freeing.
Once you master the list of 50,
you’ll be able to translate the sales skills you learned to your email list… to generate even MORE profit.
But your list of 50
Is NOT to be skipped.
Who do you know that NEEDS and SHOULD BUY from you?

Bonus points for following up with a phone call saying, “I just emailed you something important.”
STEP 7: DAILY HABITS THAT BUILD BOTH YOUR LIST AND YOUR BOTTOM LINE.
One day,
when you are driving that car you always wanted,
living in the house that makes you so incredibly proud,
when you pay off your child’s student loan debt,
when you tell your husband he can FINALLY retire….
or whatever is important to you…
you won’t look back and see ONE big break that catapulted you here.
You will look back and see the culmination of small daily habits that over time created a success story that could not and would not be denied.
Your success,
and mine
WILL come down to what you do EVERY DAY,
not what you do ONE DAY, or on SPECIAL DAYS.
STEP 8: GET DOWN WITH OPP (OTHER PEOPLE’S PEOPLE)
I do not EVER do,
and have never done
joint ventures or affiliate marketing.
Ever.
But that doesn’t mean I’m not down with OPP. =) I have LONG used a strategy that put me in front of other people’s markets as an expert, so that I could demonstrate value and nurture relationships.
I do this through speaking, through writing, through interviews and appearances.
The first step is identifying who is gathering a tribe of people who would be perfect clients for you. For instance, small business accountants and small bookkeepers are serving the EXACT SAME market as me, but we’re 100% non-competitive.
Make a list and identify the YOU-shaped hole in how they’re communicating with their people. Offer to give… so share…. to guide.

Step 9: REFINE.
Constantly refine your system, your habits, your routines and your message. Refine it so that it gets easier, more fun and — of course — more effective. It’s a process of constantly curating and recalibrating your actions to create a clearer, more direct and more enjoyable path to what you want.
Step 10: REPEAT.
You know, daily.
Because we know you’re not here to be a one-hit wonder, right??
