A lot of women entrepreneurs struggle with imposter syndrome. This article will help…
A PAIR OF BOOTS DON’T MAKE YA COUNTRY.
or
MAYBE YOU REALLY ARE AN IMPOSTER.
There’s been a lot of talk about “Imposter Syndrome” lately, and it got me thinking…
Being “country” didn’t become “cool” until I was in college, and I VIVIDLY remember the shift. City girls donning a pair of cowgirl boots and a jean skirt drunkedly singing along with Shania Twain.
Of course, none of these girls knew the first word to the NEXT song… Kenny Roger’s “The Gambler.” lol…
They ALSO didn’t know what the phrase “feed up” meant.
Or that you’d had BETTER kick it into high gear — no matter who’s looking — when a rooster (or a goose) starts chasing you.
I’m willing to bet they’d never felt the shock of an electric fence, and I wanted so badly to point out that the boots they were wearing would NEVER cut it on an ACTUAL farm.
They played country, WHEN IT WAS COOL. And, for the record, I see some of them on Facebook… and, well… let’s just say they didn’t graduate college and purchase themselves a farm. =)
My point is this: Everyone tells you to NOT ALLOW IMPOSTER SYNDROME to HOLD YOU BACK.
The popular rhetoric is this… “KEEP GOING. EVERYONE FEELS LIKE AN IMPOSTER AT SOME POINT. JUST IGNORE IT.”
I’m paraphrasing, of course. But I’m calling B.S.
IF YOU FEEL LIKE AN IMPOSTER, FOR GOD’S SAKES, DON’T IGNORE IT. INSTEAD, DIVE DEEP INTO IT. GET YOUR STUFF SORTED.
- Where exactly do you feel like an imposter?
- Where are you outright lying to people?
- Where — specifically — do you need to align your every day reality with your image / vision / message?
- Which of your own advice do you need to implement ASAP?
Call me crazy, but I don’t believe we should ignore imposter syndrome. We want to bring ALL of ourselves into this business. We want to be whole-hearted and authentic. And, newsflash… your market doesn’t need you to show up PERFECT.
So quit trying.
And quit pretending.
Oh — and OF COURSE, because you have INTEGRITY — only charge MONEY for what you TRULY KNOW and have MASTERED.
Within the halls of Women Who WOW, we have a “fertility mentor” who mentors from her own 19-year journey with infertility, birth, foster care and adoption.
We have a business coach who is absolutely brilliant and proven as a business owner. She’s not husband funded. She’s living what she teaches every single day.
We have a social media expert who blows us away with her ability to keep social simple. She walks her talk.
If you’re CHARGING MONEY for something you’re just trying to figure out yourself, you’re worse than an imposter. You’re a charlatan, another Dr. Brinkley selling goat testicles. (It’s worth a google.)
So, keep it real.
Show up ALL YOU today.
SERVE out of your UNIQUE area of mastery.
You want to stand out, you say?
You want to make a name for yourself?
Well, This right here is the formula.
And, if you’re not already there, and you’re a SERIOUSLY DRIVEN woman in business, come hang with us over in WomenWhoWOW.com.

They want to be teachers… but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.
