I’m always surprised to see where people’s focus NATURALLY drifts… and how focus DIFFERS between people who are wildly successful and those who are currently struggling or building.
Focus is huge.
When you focus on the RIGHT things, you move forward quickly, more fluidly and with less resistance.
When you focus on the WRONG
— wait —
it’s not even when you focus on the WRONG things.
It’s really when you focus too much on the superfluous things…
when you focus too much on the non-essential things,
when you focus too much on the things that are ALWAYS changing…
that is when you get distracted,
discouraged and
disconnected.
So, focus.
It’s funny how MAGNETIC talking about TOOLS can be.
Like our kids when they focused on Dora’s backpack,
or on Mary Poppin’s bag,
or on some other super hero’s suit…
we sit up straighter,
pay more attention,
when a new tool is mentioned.
I’ve been guilty of this myself.
FAR TOO LONG into my business journey,
I was still hoping for the magic tool,
the tool that would “automate” or “leverage” or “systemize” or FANCY UP my message, my business, my brand. lol…
But here’s the thing with tools.
They’re CONSTANTLY changing.
They’re cool and slick and sexy, for sure.
Tools are SEDUCTIVE beasts.
EVEN for CEOs…
But unless you’re SELLING these tools,
Or advising others on how to use them,
the focus on them is ill-placed.
Tools don’t make a business.
In ANY industry,
in EVERY industry,
those at the top will be using DIFFERENT tools,
and most likely the CEOs at the top won’t be able to have an informed discussion about which tools or software they’re using anyway. lol…
Because they know that’s not the BEST use of their brain and focus and energy. And because they graduated from the tool discussion. They left it behind, for someone else to sort out.
Next up the “ladder” of focus, is STRATEGY.
Once I stopped being seduced by tools,
I started obsessing over strategy.
I taught it, too.
Words to use.
How often to email.
Webinars (Pre-recorded vs. Live)
Sales pages.
Funnels.
How long X should be.
How many calls to action.
Blah, Blah, Blah.
In truth, I LOVE strategy still,
as long as it’s personalized, actionable and immediate.
BUT, like tools,
when you interview the TOP of any industry,
you’ll find they used a WIDE variety of strategies to build their success.
Strategies don’t change AS OFTEN as tools,
but they’re still largely “always changing,” and widely variable.
It’s (only) PRINCIPLES that don’t change.
It’s PRINCIPLES applied that are consistent at the top of any industry.
And it’s PRINCIPLES that work consistently
for every one,
every time
and whenever
they are applied.
Yet, it’s PRINCIPLES
of success,
of sales,
of marketing,
of accomplishment,
of achievement,
of pursuit…
that entrepreneurs OFTEN ignore in favor of brighter, shinier tools and strategies.
Women Who WOW is built on PRINCIPLES,
that INFORM strategies.
The tools are up to you.
I share the (very basic) tools I use quite profitably, as a starting place.
Because tools
and strategies
can be chosen based on personal preference.
MANY combinations can get you where you want to go.
But PRINCIPLES of SUCCESS
are either applied
by you consistently,
OR
you’ll see a much harder, longer journey to success.
