This weekend, I’ll head over to Maryland — with my desperate-to-travel-to-all-fifty-states-son– to speak to a group of women about POWER and CONFIDENCE. I can’t talk about this subject without thinking back to the days in which I taught parenting classes. Yep — PARENTING classes. BEFORE I was a parent, of course…. when I still knew everything!
SIDE NOTE: Seriously, I’m ashamed of the fact that I taught those classes. BUT, in my defense, I didn’t know what I didn’t know…. and a HUGE lesson for me (and hopefully for you) is that NO ONE ASKED if I had kids. I was at the front of the room teaching and NO ONE ASKED about my real world experience. Don’t make that mistake today… KNOW who you are learning from. Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming.
I guess it should go without saying, but I was wrong about ALMOST everything I taught in those days. Everything EXCEPT my favorite topic, which was how to raise RESILIENT kids. My premise was this: Children can overcome almost ANYTHING as long as they have (at least) ONE adult that was SACRIFICIALLY committed to them.
Sacrificially.
Committed.
I believe the same to be true for your business — and mine. In order to thrive, your DESIRE to succeed must be a sacrificial desire. Now, I see a LOT of casual and convenient desire.
“I’d like to succeed if I don’t have to break a sweat.”
“I’d like to succeed as long as it’s not too hard, or doesn’t take too long.”
“Succeeding in business would be nice, wouldn’t it?”
Casual, convenient desire I see everyday. Sacrificial desire? Not so much!
So, my question today is again HOW HOT is YOUR DESIRE? Is it luke warm and casual? OR burning and sacrificial? Your honest-to-goodness answer to this question matters…. and — as an aside — is obvious to onlookers.
I’m all about your wild and unreasonable success… but the inconvenient truth is that it will COST YOU something. What are you willing to SACRIFICE in order to succeed?
