If you’ve ever secretly wished for a business that barely pays your bills… that constantly leaves you with more month at the end of your money… that FOREVER feels like you’re “one big break” away from making it “big time” and EQUALLY close to throwing in the towel….
You are in the right place, friend.
I know ALL about this type of business.
I
AM
YOUR
GURU.
Been there.
Done that.
Of course, nearly every business owner you run into can — and often do — share their feast and famine stories… lamenting how HARD it is to be an entrepreneur. Wearing their hardship as a badge of honor…
You know how it is… they say.
You take 2 steps forward, and 3 steps back… they shrug.
If this one contract comes through, we’ll be good.. they assure themselves.
One contract away from making it; and
One contract away from really scary times.
A LOT of business owners can lament their entrepreneurial condition in these ways… but a PRECIOUS FEW can pinpoint WHY.
WHY are they struggling when others in their industry are killing it? WHY are they barely eeking out a living while their competitors (in their industry, their niche, perhaps even in their own city) are making a mint?
There are a LOT of ideas about why this is the case:
I need more money to market myself. (False.)
I need to get my name out there. (False.)
I need to network more. (Yawn.)
It just takes more time. (Wildly false.)
My personal favorite:
Let me take some more headshots and launch yet ANOTHER brand… and see if they like THIS ONE… (Yuck.)
Here’s the Tough Tuesday Truth…
Here’s the SECRET to building — and remaining in– a MEDIOCRE, entirely AVERAGE business:
Sequential, step-by-step action.
Do this, clean up, and then do that.
Start, finish. Start again.
Like flying from Florida to New York but boarding and de-boarding, taking off and landing in every single airport between the two states. A 2-hour flight would take a full day.
Yet, this is how most business owners do it.
SLOWLY.
SEQUENTIALLY.
They don’t want to burn out, you know…
They don’t want to take on too much, of course.
They don’t want to wear too many hats, logically.
Screw burn out.
I’ve got burn out’s number, baby.
Burn out shows up when you’re doing a bunch of stuff you SHOULD be doing and too little you LOVE doing. Burn out is a NON-issue when you’ve designed your business, your work, your life to be a PERFECT, CUSTOM Fit… when you not only LOVE what you do but when what you do actually FUELS your soul.
YES, of course, TAKE CARE OF YOU.
TAKE CARE OF THE BOSS.
But, “taking care of the boss” is NOT synonymous with moving SLOW and taking one measured step at a time. Part of taking care of ME is actually showing up and messaging EVERY SINGLE DAY. Part of taking care of ME is rolling up my sleeves and helping my clients and my WOW members get big wins. Part of taking care of ME means hopping out of bed in the wee morning hours to take action on an idea that I’m fired up about.
IGNORING this idea…
to get in my perfect 8 hours…
Now, THAT IS DRAINING.
Don’t take my word for it.
Look around you.
Listen to other business owners talk.
REALLY listen.
The ones who are building mediocre businesses (and incomes) are routinely talking about moving slow, not taking on too much, avoiding burn out, blah, blah, blah.
The ones KILLING it and actually creating a business they NEVER need to escape from… the ones leading their industry… are showing up every day, leaving a dust cloud behind them each and every day, and taking SIMULTANEOUS action.
Over on my Facebook page this week, you can read my post about being called too masculine.
