THIS IS THE GIRL ACCUSED OF BEING FAR TOO MASCULINE… THREE TIMES THIS WEEK ALONE. =)
I chose a black background for one of my blog post images. “Too masculine. You isolate women entrepreneurs.”
Because I can’t use “BOLD” font here on Facebook, I use all CAPS to draw attention to my titles on social media.
“Your use of all caps is too masculine for me as a woman entrepreneur.”
Frankly, Scarlet…. I don’t give a damn. =) This isn’t exactly a rare opinion of me. I’ve heard about my “too masculine” approach to business many, many times over the years.
Sometimes it’s my color choice.
At other times it’s my capitalization.
Still others literally take the time to reach out and let me know that I used a WORD that they didn’t resonate with… or a word that brought back memories for them, make them want to overeat (not even kidding) or otherwise made them “uncomfortable.”
I wonder… do they REALLY expect me to apologize, swap out this word or that, retype my headline using proper capitalization and otherwise change every little thing to SUIT their delicate sensibilities?
Can you imagine if THIS is the way I approached business? Editing my every thought to not offend ANYONE? Sometimes I marvel at the sheer WEIGHT they give their own opinion….
TOO masculine, they say.
Whatever.
To be sure, I don’t FEEL masculine.
BUT, if you see me as too serious, too determined, too strong too direct, too un-screw-with-able … too WHATEVER to be FEMININE…
YOU, my dear, have a far too limited view of femininity.
I am all of these things.
And more.
If you are the same…. if you went to charm school but it didn’t take… if you’re the breadwinner in your home… if you’re a STRONG FEMININE woman running her own empire… your tribe is waiting for you… over at WomenWhoWOW.com.
