Over the course of my business journey, I’ve run into a lot of experts. In fact, a friend of mine (who shall not be named) and I joke about how quickly we create “experts” in our daily life. We meet a therapist, virtual assistant, dentist or drape maker and BOOM — before we get home, we see they’ve become a business coach or expert. We must make it look really easy! lol…
All jokes aside, it’s the real world success stories who are building consistently solid, profitable businesses that we see TOO LITTLE of in the expert arena. Hype-filled, psuedo-experts touting second hand advice or book reports as real bonafide experience-based strategy? Oh yeah, PLENTY of those. But, even as I type this, I’m thinking of about 5 people right now who AREN’T selling their expertise but could benefit so many people by doing so. (And they’d make a bunch of profit too.)
This is why I make room for such non-speakers, “non-experts,” non-gurus on the Women Who WOW stage. Because anything less than battle-tested tweaks, hacks and strategies proven in the REAL WORLD on Main Street America is dangerous to your business and our economy.
Dangerous because it can lead to disaster. Do you want to know what MOST business “experts” remind me of?
ME and MMA fighting.
I’ve taken a few months of fight training. Well, make that 60 days. And I LOVE this stuff. Between you and me, being in the ring lights me up. Many times I’ve brought up the idea of entering an MMA fight locally. But I’ve not yet pulled the trigger on that one… because here’s what I know.
With regards to MMA fighting, I know enough to be able to hold my own — if caught in a bar fight with a bunch of sloppy drunk rednecks. But, I know JUST enough to be stomped silly in the ring with a TRULY trained fighter.
Do you see the similarity? If you’re HERE, reading this blog, you’ve NO DOUBT paid money or attention to a business guru who you later found out knew less than you. Let me defend said guru for a minute. LIKE ME with MMA, this guru is passionate about business and WANTS to help you. It’s just that far too many of them know JUST ENOUGH to be dangerous to your business. And they don’t KNOW what they don’t know.
So, forgive them… and move on. We’re responsible for who we listen to. We’re responsible for who we allow to influence our success — or lack of it. It is OUR responsibility to be choosey!
At PROFIT HACKS on June 7th, which I hope you’ll register for IMMEDIATELY,I’ve amassed a growing list of experts to give attendees practical strategies that WORK to increase your profit and reduce your frustration in business. EVERY expert has been personally “vetted” by me. These are REAL DEAL, MAIN STREET, JOB CREATORS. Their focus at PROFIT HACKS is limited to what they know and have proven profitable. No theory. No hype. Just a singular goal of equipping you to be MORE PROFITABLE. Will this be a large event? Yes — but think LARGE SCALE mastermind, not stuffy, top-down, main stage conference.
