There’s a saying that you are entitled to your own opinion, but not to your own FACTS. There IS truth. There ARE facts. There IS reality.
Ignoring fact/ truth / reality will never work in our favor.
Not as women.
Not as entrepreneurs.
Not as leaders.
I’ll be very candid. I am a suspicious person, BY MY VERY NATURE. I am in fact MUCH MORE interested in what is happening BEHIND the curtain than in the SHOW itself.
And MUCH of this world is a show.
I am quick to look behind the curtain of ANY wizard and am grateful for the intuitive ability to do just that. Part of this ability is SIMPLY being a grizzled veteran in this space, and paying attention. I see the contradictions that reveal the “gap.” Part of it, I am only recently realizing, is my ability to see or hear things… intuitively. I play this down, a lot. Partly because I don’t understand it fully. Partly because it intimidates me (because I don’t understand it fully, lol…)
But while there IS that more nuanced “knowing” that I sometimes have… MUCH of what I scream from the mountain tops about is PAINFULLY obvious.
So, let’s talk about separating fact from fiction.
–> FACT: EXPERIENCE MATTERS.
Listen, this is not about anyone’s worthiness as a person OR as a coach. (Selling a program is selling ADVICE — assumedly based on experience. Coaching is different entirely.)
I USED to joke with one of my friends who is married to a black man. I used to say, “Look if he needs any advice on how to be a black man in America, have him call me.”
It was a FREAKING JOKE. We LAUGHED about it. As we should. What could i POSSIBLY offer him by way of practical advice on the matter?
Now, you may be willing to take marital advice from an unmarried priest. (many are.) Or you may be willing to take financial advice from the nice homeless man in your area. Hey — right now you might be learning about the “black experience” whilst reading a book written by a woman as white as me. (It DID become a best seller.)
I am not saying that the Priest is a bad person, or shouldn’t be a priest. I’m not saying that the homeless man isn’t an angel in disguise. And I am not saying anything about the white author being a bad person. I’m just pointing out that she’s white.
I’m not saying these are bad people, simply that experience matters. In fact, COMEDIES are made up of storylines about hiring someone with no experience.
Get Hard is the perfect example.
Will Ferrel hires Kevin Hart to help him prepare for prison. Only… Kevin had never BEEN to prison. This is not a success lesson. It’s a comedy. In Horrible Bosses, the guys hire Jaime Foxx to help them plan a murder. Only.. he had never planned a murder.
It’s an OUTRAGEOUS story line and — no surprise — Hilarity ensues.
But unless you want a HILARIOUS business or life that is constantly a hot mess while providing a lot of laughter for the masses… I recommend ASKING about the experience of someone you’re paying to advise you.
Again, this is not about hate. My FIRST and PRIMARY business mentor is STILL loved dearly by me to this day. And I STILL pay for access to him. But I do not follow his marketing advice any longer. Why? Because the TRUTH IS he has been a W-2 employee for the last 15-20 years. He is not marketing on his own dime, and THAT MATTERS. Still, I learn OTHER things from him. Things he has aCTUAL EXPERIENCE in, and love him just the same.
This is also why I do not ever sign up for a “Mastermind” that has employee coaches. The DIFFERENCE between being an employee with a guaranteed paycheck and an entrepreneur is vast. The perspective, the advice, all of it. This is not saying YOU shouldn’t sign up for these things, just that I won’t.

–> FACT: ALL THAT FANCY SHIT CAN BE A REALLY EXPENSIVE GAP.
There is a lot of stuff — sold PRIMARILY to women entrepreneurs in the online space — that LOOKS GOOD but actually keeps them from making any money.
I asked a woman recently, “Why don’t you just email your people?” I mean, waiting on this template and that design … as if her list was just WAITING on the RIGHT design in order to hire her. No, she’s hired for her magic… as are you.
I asked another woman why she was NOT selling her CORE offer and continually creating free this and famous-person that. Answer: I’m procrastinating.
REAL ANSWER for both: They were sold “things” that played into their belief that their message
BY ITSELF
WAS NOT ENOUGH.
The online space is SAVVY, woman. They KNOW your desire to “get it all perfect and polished” before you actually bare your soul to the market. BUT, really… how will you EVER bare your soul, CONNECT with the people you want to serve, with all of these technical layers between you.
It’s like having sex with your clothes on… and not at ALL in a fun way. I’m talking trying to hook up while wearing long johns, jeans, two pairs of socks, overalls and a coat. TRUST ME, no one is interested in that dialed down, covered up version of you.
They want your HEART and SOUL.
They want to CoNNECT.
** Do you KNOW how intimate Women who WOW really is? For those that show up, it is a FORMIDABLE TRIBE of FIERCE women who have each other’s backs. Formidable. Fierce. There’s no pretense here. No showboating. No awkward and lame 30-second commercials of introduction. And friend, it is SO refreshing. Anything that ACTUALLY creates division and diversion between you and your market is an EXPENSIVE gap. You should be BRIDGING it, not “automating” it. ShOW UP for your people. Take the pulpit and preach! You can always make your emails pretty later,

–> FACT: YOU MUST HAVE SOMETHING TO LEVERAGE, IN ORDER TO CREATE LEVERAGE.
lol… Actually, I shouldn’t laugh.
WAY TOO MAnY have been lured into creating intricate offers with pre-recorded webinars and pre-written funnels… when they have NO list of their own and NO money to pay to build a list from cold leads.
But they don’t ask:
WHO will go through the webinar?
HOW will they get there?
They just don’t ask.
And so they buy
and then they work SO HARD at perfecting something
that too few will ever see.
I USE the leverage tools.
I’m an EXPERT at this.
The leveraged offers
the funnels that convert
the re-packaging and re-selling of information.
FEW do it QUITE like I do.
So I have nothing against these things but you’ve GOT to have something to leverage before you start to leverage. (These things are TYPICALLY: demand for your work, a hungry herd / list, visibility, reputation, or SOME LEVEL of foundational business success).
–> FACT: BUSINESS SUCCESS DEMANDS COURAGE.
The courage to BET on yourself,
the courage to fail publicly and keep showing up, bat in hand, READY to take another swing<
the courage to leave behind the guarantees and the safety nets,
the courage to live counter-culture in a world that prefers security to freedom,
the courage to STAND NAKED and invite people in closer,
the courage to stand alone,
the courage to keep inviting in the face of rejection (perceived and real).
There’s a SIMPLE way to succeed wildly.
I live it — in PLAIN VIEW for all who are watching —
