Think aspirin and ibuprofen can’t be made better… and made into a business? Think again! This is EXACTLY what Josh and Tony Breeden did with b+b products!
Josh and Tony Breeden grew up in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. At the height of the recession in 2009, Tony founded Ole Smoky Moonshine and Whiskey to help put the good people of Appalachia, Tennessee back to work. Today, a global brand, they are proud to be one of Tennessee’s most visited attractions as well as the most visited distillery in the world with over 3.5 million visitors annually.
The success so exceeded their expectations that Josh and Tony were driven to find another venture to work on together to help those in need. Issues with the country’s healthcare system seemed to be front and center. Health insurance accessibility was becoming more difficult and extra pressure is being put on the nation’s free health clinics and rural health centers. They met with a team at Americares and learned that one of the biggest needs for these clinics is being able to provide basic, over the counter medicines such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen. That was all they needed to hear and b+b® was created – to help provide these basic pain relief medications.
Josh and Tony now provide the same FDA approved pain relievers you know and trust, acetaminophen, naproxen sodium and ibuprofen, with dye-free options that no other brand offers, at the same or lower prices than brand names. Also, their flat bottles were designed with the engineers who made the EOS lip balms for fun, on-the-go packaging.
Just like the TOMS shoes or Bombas socks models, they donate one-for-one: for every product purchased they donate a product to a person in need. To date they have donated over 2.5 million doses to health clinics across the United States!
The biggest thing they have learned in business is to know your strengths and weaknesses and realize that you can’t be good at everything. Here’s the advice they have for Women Who WOW members:
“You only have to be good at trusting your instinct on choosing good people. If you are the smartest person in the room, your ego has taken the wheel to the disadvantage of your brand. A friend once said that if you aren’t sure who the weak link is, it is probably you.”
