I’m mortally offended, of course, but let me jump right to the point… just for you.
The secret is to take the steps that go to the BANK first… and watch a funny thing happen: AS you make money, as you WIN clients, as you SERVE people, you build a powerful brand.
THIS is always the case.
There is NO WAY to sell and get clients and serve them (i.e. make bank) and NOT build a brand.
Why? Because your BRAND is a by-product of being ACTIVELY in business. (This is a “loose” quote from Dan Kennedy.) Your brand is like the wake left behind a boat as it moves through the water: the WAKE is a foregone conclusion. It happens every time.
Your brand is just like that. As you move through the battlefield of business, your BRAND is the “wake” that you leave behind you. It’s the ESSENCE, the RESIDUE, the WAVES that are created as you’re actively in business.
Unfortunately for so many, there are business goo-roos teaching that you must FIRST build a brand (doing what? Planning, picking colors, choosing a tagline… you know, fun stuff) in order to EARN the right to go make bank.
Nope. This is a lie.
It is simply not a thing.
It presents a lie about BRANDING,
which is an EFFECT of being in business, not a pre-requisite or a deliberate pre-revenue creation. And it is a lie about making BANK… because you need NOTHING but an offer in order to make bank.

Back to the steps.
They will tell you that the steps to building a brand include choosing colors, tagline, photo shoots, website design, maybe a one-page, etc. I’ll be honest. These things are fun and SEDUCTIVE because they require ZERO vulnerability or risk. You feel accomplished after they’re done. But what have you done, really, other than dress up and forecast?
The steps to building a brand are actually the same as the steps to make bank:
Go to market,
sell and
DELIVER.
You will make money, AND your work will leave a residue.. an essence… some waves as you go. AND THAT is the brand.
You don’t create a “brand” in a vacuum. You create it in ACTION. You create it NOT WITH a branding expert, but in TANDEM with your market, with the people you are actively serving.
For the record, it is definitely POSSIBLE to spend time and money building a brand first…. and THEN get to the business of selling and making money. But it is not a foregone conclusion.
Having a well-crafted brand
that is built in a conference room,
rather than ON the business battlefield,
can PERHAPS give you the confidence to then go out there and SELL.
And once you get the confidence, you will need to go back to my three steps above:
Go to market,
SELL, and
Deliver.
Repeat.
