There are few people I have more compassion for than the coach that struggles financially… the coach that struggles to keep consistent clients… the consultant who TRULY knows her stuff, but too few people are hiring her… the passionate expert with expertise that is hard fought and battle tested who is LOSING CLIENTS to someone who — frankly — is a charlatan with great marketing.
It breaks my heart because I have been that coach.
The broke coach.
But it was more than just financially broke.
😢 I was heart broken.
😢 Ashamed. (Of my lack of financial compensation, my lack of ability to do things for / with my family.)
🤬 I was FURIOUS watching GOOROOS in the media spewing fancy acronyms that were nothing more than total B.S.
But let’s get back to the money.
The money in a coaching business is something to behold.
🤑 This business is HIGH PROFIT. (I mean, what overhead do you REALLY have?)
🤑 There are no real geographical boundaries, so your market is unlimited.
🤑 You can charge what you want… and it gets exciting to calculate how much you can make if you got 5 new clients, 8 new clients…10 new clients. OR if you sold 5 programs, 8 seats, or 10 memberships.
RIGHT? I can’t be the only one who would constantly doodle numbers.
10 people x $100 = $1000.
$67 product X 30 people = $2010
10 people X $2500 = $25K
50 people X $97/month = $58200 / year.
My old journals (and new ones… I STILL love doing this) are full of numbers like this. Just imagining all the different ways that I would make my money goals. I LOVED it. (And love it still.)
But, many coaches are YEARS (even over a decade) into their businesses before they EVER soar past the six-figure mark in their business…
and many NEVER do.
Many give up, going back to a J-O-B…
but not without
first trying different “genres” of coaching.
Life Coach turns
Business Coach turns
Media Coach turns
Health Consultant turns
whatever.
Here’s the first thing you need to know to turn things around:
Selling COACHING or CONSULTING or your MENTAL REAL ESTATE is different.
⭐️ How you PRICE is different,
⭐️ How you PACKAGE is different,
⭐️ How you PRESENT your price is different,
⭐️ How you MARKET is different,
⭐️ How you FOLLOW UP is different..
It’s all different, so forget what you THINK you know about making money as a coach. Instead, focus on these four cornerstones of a PROFITABLE coaching business…
💥💥 COMMERCIAL BREAK: I’ll be in National Harbor, MD for one full day teaching THIS to a SMALL group of coaches and experts. It’s an intensive day of making sure YOU are making the money you deserve. For those flying in, special meet and greet the night before. Learn more and RSVP here. 💥💥
Cornerstone #1: PLATFORM
You’ve got to decide and design your preferred platform for two things: Your marketing aND your delivery. Hint: if you base your marketing on what you LOVE to do anyway, it changes everything.
Cornerstone #2: PERFORMANCE
This is all about your “daily doing.” How you perform within the market. It’s about the doing to GET clients and the doing WITH clients. Seamless, my friends… seamless. What if the coaching you were DOING actually DREW more clients to you?
Cornerstone #3: PERSONALITY
The ONLY thing that can’t be amazon-ed is that ruthlessly authentic YOUness. How do you weave your personality into ALL of your work so that your clients can’t find what YOU deliver
any
where
else?
Cornerstone #4: PROTECTION.
The annual “Michelle Sucks” awards banquet and support group kicked off the day I went PUBLIC about why coaches should NOT be meeting anyone for coffee… why they SHOULD NOT be trading “coaching hours,” (ugh) and why coaches cannot AFFORD to be over-networked. Bottom line: When you are SELLING access to you, you cannot — CAN NOT– indiscriminately give it away for free.
Save the hate mail. I’m no longer accepting any. =)
Anyway, when your PLATFORM and PERFORMANCE intersects DELIBERATELY with your PERSONALITY and you’re PROTECTING access to you….
well,
being a “broke coach”
will be
a thing
of
the
past.
