We hope never to be in the situation where we need a quick and / or impressive surge of cash in our business or home budget. But hoping doesn’t make it so.
In fact, MOST businesses will hit a dry spell from time to time, which is why Dan Kennedy’s company — serving some of the most wildly profitable businesses in the world — recently posted this article: 3 Ways to Instantly Find Money in Your Business. The key is making sure you have marketing and sales foundations in place to keep these sales dips to a minimum… but that’s another blog post. For today, let’s talk about the FIRST and most important step towards creating a cash surge in your business:
Obsession.
Obsession. Obsession has everything to do with how quickly you can create money in your business when you need or want it. Why? Because — as I’ve posted many times before– Speed has everything to do with focus (obsessive focus.)
Think about your recently divorced friend. How quickly did she lose that weight she could never lose after her husband left or had an affair? They call it the divorce diet… and it works because of the obsession with the results.
When is the last time you become OBSESSED with something in your business??? Giving it your full attention during work hours? Let me tell you, I see business owners obsessed all the time.
- They obsess about getting their name out there. As a result, they have a “whatever it takes” commitment (obsession) with achieving this goal. They attend EVERY networking group they can find, they start their own, they PAY MONEY to speak at other people’s events, they hustle, hustle, hustle and do — in fact — get their name out there. (Only later do they realize they don’t get paid for people to know their name.)
- They obsess over getting that book published. As a result, they pay money to have their book published through a vanity publisher, pay to have someone coach them through the book writing process, attend retreats, etc., etc., etc. (Only later do they realize that the same business challenges they had before they became a “published author” await them after the book is published.)
- They obsess over what people think of them, proper grammar, perfection, head shots, and graphics.
But I rarely see them obsess over their next sales goal… I rarely see that take an unapologetically stand on the center stage of their business.
What a shame…. because tell me the last time you OBSESSED over something and missed your target??? Rarely, if ever. So, grow some obsessive-like qualities, apply them to your cash surge goal, and then head over to that article I mentioned earlier for some ideas on how to take action!
