Last week I did something I’d never done before. Because I don’t “hop on consult calls” with people who are interested in joining Women Who WOW, I decided that once a quarter for all of 2020, I’d spend a full day talking to people who are INTERESTED in Women Who WOW but have some questions.
It was apparent after just a few calls that I may have to re-think this strategy. I ended 2/3rds of the calls with an invite to “stay connected to WOW’s free resources” RATHER than inviting them to join the Women Who WOW tribe of seriously driven women entrepreneurs.
Honestly, I felt like someone living in a single-sex, single-race, single-religion community who ventured into the “real world” for a day. I literally marveled at the pervasive, prevalent thinking that was applied to business and success.
You see, I’ve surrounded myself with strong, decisive, ALL IN, courageous women entrepreneurs. We’re SUPER diverse in all ways but one: We’re united in this mindset that is ALL IN and perhaps a smidge defiant .
We apply ACCURATE thinking and see ourselves as the CAUSE of the success we want. And because we see ourselves as the CAUSE… as an active CREATOR of the success we want, we do not fall victim to the — evidently common– “Great Happening” virus. So, to venture out and see this virus so prevalent… well, I was shocked.
The Great Happening is a virus that spreads a dangerous self-deception: the belief that assures the well-intentioned entrepreneur that if they keep doing what they’ve BEEN doing, and make no changes, that perhaps success will ONE FINE DAY “happen” to them…. as long as they keep doing what they’ve BEEN doing for long enough.
I did try to inoculate them…
to introduce
EVER SO GENTLY
another more direct,
more empowered
more EFFECTIVE
way to think…
in order to create success.
But I was dumbfounded by how many were stuck pre-decision… unwilling or unable to even DECIDE what they’d sell, what they’d change, what they’d go after. I was left nearly speechless by how many admitted their plan was simply to “keep going” until “something happened.”
My heart leaped out to them,
but I didn’t even know what to say,
how to combat that sort of willful impotence.
Because we ALL get stuck at times,
even PRE-decision,
but it’s not in our nature to wallow there, right?
We reach out, get support, and get moving.
But they seemed nearly resistant to action,
very content to WAIT on some “Great Happening”
something to shine down,
bestow upon them the right decision,
or perfect timing,
some miracle to clear the road in front of them
and beckon them forward.
The thing is…
waiting on “The Great Happening”
is the opposite of empowerment.
It’s similar to waiting on your Prince charming to swoop in and rescue you.
And woman, you are SOOOO much more powerful than that. So much more PURPOSEFUL than that. You’ve got TOO MUCH POTENTIAL to waste in waiting on some great (external) happening.
I will warn you that The Great Happening virus…
is CONTAGIOUS. Your mom was right: WHO you hang around with matters.
So, if you’re hanging out in entrepreneurial communities where they are ALSO sitting on their hands waiting for success to happen TO them, leave the room. There’s a whole WORLD of entrepreneurial women who are shattering their OWN glass ceilings, creating their success brick by brick and BEING the success they want.
Come hang out with us.
Because OUR thinking…
Is also contagious.
P.S. Here’s why I have never before done “consult” calls for people who are interested in Women Who WOW: https://www.bmichellepippin.com/a-curated-content-journey-to-decide-if-women-who-wow-is-for-you/?fbclid=IwAR1HsTBafUi8xE4zThH8hZP82VeOV2JrkMT-XTqFVt5Brhz_wY3C5kpI8aA (Especially the Hell Yes or Hell No section!
