The most IMPORTANT sale is selling YOU on YOU. That’s the most IMPORTANT sale, and I hope you re-sell you on you…. every single day.
(Because doubt in the seller = doubt in the buyer.)
But the HARDEST sale you’ll ever try to make is asking someone to go from FREE to FEE.
Now, we’re all grown ups here.
And so you MAY think,
“C’mon Michelle…. He knows I’m in business.
He knows that I have invited him to buy / join / pay / make an appointment, whatever.
And although I’ve given him X,Y and Z for free….
SURELY he knows that I can’t keep doing EVERYTHING for free, right? SURELY he GETS that I’m a business owner.”
No.
No, my friend…
sometimes they do NOT get it.
(And, ahem,
I actually sell TO business owners,
who sometimes still do NOT get it. lol…)
But, it is NOT their fault they don’t get it.
It’s yours.
Stay with me.
There ARE times when FREE is a great strategy.
I’ve used it profitably myself,
but it is one of the most complex and often UNCOMFORTABLE strategies to implement.
And even when you do it SUPERBLY,
some…
may feel OFFENDED.
They may feel PUT OUT,
as if you changed the rules for them….
MID-GAME.
(Which you sort of have… but we’ll get to that in a minute.)
Sometimes, no matter how generous you’ve been,
and in some cases BECAUSE of how generous you’ve been,
your freebie beneficiaries can end up shocked and appalled when you say, “yeah…. this is something people pay for.”
WAIT!!! YOU WANT ME TO ACTUALLY PAY YOU…
FOR WHAT YOU SELL???? BUT, I THOUGHT FOR SOME CRAZY STRANGE REASON I GOT EVERYTHING FOR FREE!
lol…
DO NOT BLAME THE BENEFICIARY.
Cut them off, lol..
but don’t blame them.
Blame YOU.
Blame the way the FREEBIE strategy was implemented.

end up bringing…
big shocker here….
so brace yourselves…
FREEBIE SEEKERS
to your door.
So, you’ve got to be strategic,
bold
and unemotional about ANY freebie strategy you’re implementing.
The ONLY way to do FREE to FEE effectively is to follow the following rules:
— Do NOT give away (exactly) what you hope to sell. Give away a PORTION of it, a SAMPLE of it, a small PIECE of what you sell, but NOT what you actually sell.
— Invite them DIRECTLY to buy from you.
— CALL out the gift. “This is only a small portion, a taste test really of what you get with ____________.”
— SET A HARD LIMIT. Do NOT continue to give more and more and more for free. You will NOT earn the sale this way. The longer and more you give, the more appalled they will be when you cut them off. So, set your own limit in advance.
— Cut them off. Why buy the cow if you’re getting the milk for free… and all of that. 😊
And even THEN,
even when you do ALL of this,
some will walk away offended.
But many,
will have an aha moment,
sometimes even AFTER feeling offended,
and enter a PROFESSIONAL relationship with you. (Professionals get paid.)
