I saw a post from someone this morning about how celebrities doing free concerts would make it even harder for break out stars to cut through the noise and be noticed.
I can’t sing… so I hadn’t thought about that.
But then I saw that Chris Hemsworth is doing a free 6-week online workout… and I immediately thought of my dear-to-my-heart Peloton app… as well as those selling Beach Body on Demand, and the many yoga teachers who are taking their classes online, and how this may affect them.
Now I am seeing a slew of coaches making their services FREE to anyone. As if the coaching industry didn’t have ENOUGH going against it right now. As if going from FREE to FEE wasn’t THE hardest leap you’ll ever have to make in business. (Hint: it is.)
Side note: I have a ton of content for coaches who want to get paid what they’re worth. No opt-in. Just free resources, all in one place. Just message me (M.me/womenwhowow) and I’ll shoot it over to you.
Let me assure you,
this virus and its consequences will pass
LONG before the damage of this freebie mentality
will leave your brand or industry.
It will be another “Invisible enemy” you must defeat.
So, first things first:
Don’t be part of the masses who are offering what they CHARGED for 3 weeks ago, for FREE to anyone. It’s rude to those who paid for it previously and it immediately places YOUR work in the category of “nice to have when money is flowing and all the stars align.”
OF COURSE you can give stuff for free…
and you may even want to ExPAND your free zone, as I did above with free resources for coaches and as I mentioned in this video training: https://www.facebook.com/womenwhowow/videos/812068632627853/
BUT YOU DO NOT WANT TO GIVE AWAY (EXACTLY) WHAT YOU HOPE TO SELL.
No matter how amazing you are,
the prospect of PAYING for stuff
you used to get for free
is a tough sell.
(Perhaps why a lot of college kids readily accept socialism… going from “mom buys everything for me” to “let the state buy everything for me,” seems to be an easy shift. Something to think about…. but I digress.)
Bottom line: Instead of giving WHAT YOU SELL away for free, consider giving away well-packaged resources that you have sitting on your proverbial shelves. Or maybe do a zoom training or a series of Facebook lives that meet your market right where they are. Maybe you offer an income stream via an affiliate offer that you’ve never offered before or host something completely for fun… but geared toward your market.
Reducing your body of work
and experience and expertise
to the clearance aisle is one thing…
And I don’t recommend it.
But putting it out on the CURB for passersby to take what they wish, is something entirely different.
Stand tall.
Serve well.
And SELL daily.
YOU are the backbone of this economy.
Don’t shrug.
P.S. I’m here for you.
Let me know how I can help!
