It seems there’s a strange and powerful magic in an empty calendar. You can give the biggest and most committed pessimist a brand new calendar for a new year, and even THEY begin thinking of possibility. =)
Maybe it’s that we view a new year as a do over. We haven’t messed up yet. We haven’t fallen behind yet. We haven’t fallen into time traps, old habits or patterns yet. Maybe it’s simply a proverbial clean slate. We start dreaming big, joining our peers in making BOLD declarations and getting excited about what COULD be.
But, as any realist will tell you, with each passing day… these “resolutions” fall into the MIGHT HAVE BEEN graveyard.
Today, before I go shopping, I want to shoot you a quick reminder:
Every single day is a day filled with possibility and potential. Every single day is one in which we can start over… stop doing… start doing… launch… quit…. grow… shrink…. continue… or change direction. EVERYTHING UNDER OUR CONTROL is a matter of CHOICE and COMMITMENT… not CALENDAR or CIRCUMSTANCE.
Still, while the hype and energy and excitement is aligned with fresh starts, bold visions and new goals… we might as well leverage it… right?
