Admittedly, my husband was LESS enthused when I announced that I’d found a new, younger, hotter “crush.” Still, my husband “fears” NO mortal man, as he KNOWS what he has going on, and knows I’m still a VERY smitten kitten after nearly 26 years.
Back to my “crush.” I was “on the gram” reading a post of his that talked about his DISTASTE for the focus on morning routines within the entrepreneur community. The thing is, he is NOT against morning routines. He’s against what can happen when you begin to be IMPRISONED by them, unable to function when your routine gets thrown off.
As soon as I read that, I thought of how much shade gets thrown my way because of my “stand,” (my views) on digital marketing when I AM in fact a digital marketer. It’s not that I am AGAINST any of the digital marketing thing…
I mean, THIS is what I DO,
what i’ve DONE
for years…
decades.
OF COURSE i’m not “against it.”
BUT what I AM AGAINST is the blinders a focus on digital marketing “bells and whistles” can put on an otherwise smart entrepreneur, SOMEHOW ECLIPSING their:
— common sense,
— business experience,
— ability to think critically;
— knowledge of BASIC business principles.
So, when you are “doing all the work” and somehow the program is NOT working for you… what part of the basics, of common sense did you leave behind when chasing that bright shiny object?
Because ALL the tactics work sometimes.
And ALL the tactics do NOT work sometimes.
And YES…

or the hot new funnel software
or the $X / day ad program
COULD work for you.
BUT YOU CANNOT forget your foundation.
YOU cannot SCALE when you have nothing to scale. This is like going to a financial planner with $0 and asking her to INVEST it for you and make it grow. it’s silly. Embarrassing even.
You cannot IGNORE the fact that it’s a NOISY marketplace and your people have to KNOW and PREFER your voice. (Building demand and authority is formulaic. It’s what I’m laying out this week for our WOW members. Let’s get you signed up with us for the month of June. Just message me.)
You cannot IGNORE the things that your market are impressed by and drawn to, which will NEVER be your fancy funnel OR your ad budget. BUT it MAY just be Media mentions, celebrity association, a certain persona or approach. Also, they like to work with HUMANS, not robots.
You cannot SKIP over the “bit” of your business journey that grows strong roots. You MUST be willing to go DEEP within your market, adding value and forming connections. MUCH of this is uncelebrated, un-highlighted-on-insta work. BUT it is critical and it IS how that person you admire… built his or her OWN business before stumbling on to whatever they’re selling you right now.
You cannot IGNORE the POWER of authority within your chosen market. This cannot be purchased. It MUST be built. Again, anyone can do this. It IS formulaic. It’s just you know, not the highlights reel, so it’s a harder sell.
Anyway, when your foundation is strong,
when demand for your voice is PALPABLE
when your AUTHORITY is unquestionable,
choose whatever bright shiny object blows your skirt up. Because at that point, it WILL work. But if you do NOT have these personal brand “things” in place, you’re wasting your time and money.
