I am participating in a 21-day automatic writing challenge, which is SORT OF a journaling course, and I’m loving it. On day one, we were asked to journal on the following question:
“What is my single minded purpose?”
ONE laser focused purpose to capture all I am and all I hope to be? As a woman, as a wife, as a lover, as a mother, as a daughter, as a sister, as an aunt… but also as an entrepreneur, a messenger, a leader, a writer?
It seemed a bit much at first.
What immediately came to mind is the mission I have for my company, which is to leave women FULLY empowered and FULLY expressed.
Yes, Women Who WOW is about making more money, and MAINLY about making more money on your own terms, but ULTIMATELY I want women to be empowered,
and there is NO empowerment
if you cannot FINANCIALLY support yourself
(and if applicable to you)
your family.
**The business bit for me is ALWAYS about empowerment, owning your own income, schedule, surroundings, co-workers, etc. It’s just the BEST tool I’ve found to empower women.**
Short of salvation, the fastest way to change a woman’s life for the better is to change the way she makes a living. We spend a lot of time in our culture making a living, so it matters.
If I have to dress or look a certain way to make money, put up with certain indignities to make money, or give up the things that matter MOST to me, in order to make money… I am not fully empowered.
If I have to apologize to everyone I love,
Letting them and myself down,
while pleasing whoever signs my paycheck…
I am not fully empowered.
And if I have to edit myself constantly,
for fear of judgement or criticism,
I cannot be fully expressed.
If I have to play a role,
reign myself in,
lower my voice,
play pretend…
I cannot be fully expressed.
So while this is my BUSINESS mission, to help other women LIVE fully empowered and fully expressed…
Could it also be my PERSONAL “single minded vision:” to live fully… fully empowered and fully expressed.
For me, everything that is true is ALWAYS true. TRUTH is true no matter what it is applied. So, my personal beliefs about health– for example — apply to cancer as well as to covid. My personal beliefs about simplicity (as ALWAYS worth seeking) apply to marriage and parenting as well as to business and money. If something is true in the office, it’s also true in the bedroom.
Speaking of the bedroom, as I was journaling this morning, I remembered a conversation I was having with some girlfriends recently about sex.
I CRAVE it.
I crave that space where I can be in my MOST feminine… where I can really let go… where I can BECOME my body, and nothing else, where everything else goes away, at least temporarily.
I crave that space of letting EVERY role and every RULE “go,”
where there is zero pretense,
where the connection is more animalistic than human,
where there are no rules and no shoulds and no expectations.
THIS is the space where I am most fully empowered and most fully expressed. This is my favorite space. (A distant second is when I’m just a girl and her notebook, journaling and creating worlds of my own making! lol.. )
So, yeah. It fits.
It fits everywhere.
That’s my Single Minded Purpose:
To live FULLY, fully empowered and fully expressed.
And my BUSINESS’ single-minded purpose is similar:
To help other women live FULLY, fully empowered and fully expressed.
This does not mean my business is ME. My business is a CREATION of mine, a totally separate (legally and otherwise) entity that I had the pleasure of birthing and continue to have the pleasure of nuturing through ALL of its forms and ages and stages.
⭐️ Business done RIGHT makes money, ON DEMAND, at the direction of its leader. (Remember: the JOB of a business is to produce revenue. Don’t overcomplicate this. Profit is THE central — natural — purpose of a business.
⭐️ Business done RIGHT scratches an itch… that itch to be MORE and DO more than you previously thought possible.
⭐️ Business done RIGHT grows its owner. It IS a crash course in self-development.
⭐️ Business done RIGHT creates opportunity.
⭐️ Business done RIGHT enriches and empowers and emboldens.
⭐️ Business done RIGHT deepens connections.
But for your business to be done RIGHT, you’ve got to get UBER clear on what and WHO your business is.. You’ve got to DELIBERATELY create this entity that can and should one day function without you. You MUST feed it, nurture it, strengthen it, test it…
Much like a child
that is ‘yours’ but not ‘you,’
you MUST be deliberate enough
to CREATE the best possible landscape for it to thrive…
and curious enough
to let it surprise you with how WELL it performs when you give it what it needs.
The problem with business, though…
is that there is too much B.S. being sold
about what your business NEEDS
in order to thrive.
So, people you trust are selling you programs, templates, systems that are one-size-fits-all. They are convincing you that EVERY business needs this software and that process. They are hopping on trends and selling HARD, which makes sense for them because trends die quickly.
(Side note: Before you buy something from someone look backwards a couple of years. What were they selling as the “magic bullet” then? lol.. And what happened to that magic bullet? Chances are they just hop off that trend wave, ignore it and move on to another! Be VERY wary spending your money on these “trend-setters.”)
What remains…
when all the bright shiny objects lose their shine
when all of the trends are cast aside,
when all the noise dies down,
are principles.
