I picked up an old planner of mine from 2008, and was struck by how much of my time “working” was actually wasted.
But looking back, I realized that YES I was working. Actually, I was working TOO much.
But I was spending 80-90% of my time on routine and urgent tasks. (And most of the URGENT was — frankly — someone else’s urgent. Clients who got their panties in a wad over something that really wasn’t a “thing” at all, but somehow ended up right oN TOP of my own to do list.)
So, my days were….
spent,
wasted,
poured out…
on the routine and urgent tasks,
which helped me MAINTAIN my current business,
and my current clients.
BUT DID NOTHING TO HELP ME GROW.
Is it any wonder I grew so slowly?
And by so little?
that business felt like a proverbial groundhog day?
Of course, I am not alone in this.
Most business owners are the same.
MOST spend 80-90% of their time on maintenance tasks… if not more.
But today, you see something different from me. TODAY, I spend 80 -90% of my time in my genius zone… MESSAGING and GROWING…. and only 10 – 20% on anything routine. (And NO time on the urgent. I’ve decided that TRULY URGENT doesn’t exist in my industry. lol.. )
