HERE’S SOMETHING THE TRULY SUCCESSFUL ABSOLUTELY DO NOT — EVER — UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES DO… EVER, EVER.
Can you imagine Tony Robbins or Oprah or Dan Kennedy or Gary Vaynerchuk or Katrina Ruth or ______insert your go to guru_____ putting their NAME on a book or course or white paper that was also being pitched and pretend-authored by a bunch of other people?
Umm, no.
And before you start typing your reply,
I’m not talking about hiring a ghost writer.
I’m talking about buying rights to a piece of work,
slapping your name on it,
and maybe — hopefully — adding a few of your own stories,
and then pedaling it around the internet as your own????
And doing so
WHILST KNOWING that
others
— who also paid to pretend it was THEIR book or course or whatever —
are ALSO doing the same thing,
pretending it’s THEIR Own?
No.
No way.
And, of course not.
Every name you know today,
built their platform,
their brand,
their body of work,
ON THEIR OWN MESSAGE.
It is WHY
you know their name.
I ran into this “white labeling” b.s. for the first time years ago… with a client that is still a member of Women Who WOW today. The thing was, she was a TRUE expert in her OWN right. She was pedaling (and even “white labeling” someone else’s work) and she was — frankly — more experienced than THEY.
Why?
She felt like their BRAND would be easier to sell.
This regurgitated (and bastardized with a slew of different covers all with same title, same image, different author name, different author picture) content was “already created,” of course.
It would save time.
It would give her something to sell.
WHAT??
I immediately shut THAT down.
Because in order to succeed,
AS IS EVIDENCED BY EVERY SINGLE SUCCESS STORY OUT THERE,
we MUST MUST MUST
carve out
or manufacture into existence,
a CATEGORY OF ONE.
You simply can not do this with regurgitated, white-labeled content… no matter how much you’ve “customized it.” I mean, that book or that course or that “magazine cover” is DESIGNED to make you look established, right?
So, what happens when your prospect sees ANOTHER person peddling the same book with the same (exact) “pitch” — only under another name? It’s a BIT like showing up to a party with a rented “husband” (aka escort) that looks good but soon announces his hourly fee.
OOPS.
#busted.
And also,
hashtag, humiliated????
Look,
if you’re serious about this,
stand on your OWN stage.
Build that sucker brick by brick
let the sweat of your brow stain the wood.
And then,
stand up there and PREACH.
Give the world
give YOUR MARKET
your OWN, UNIQUE
and twisted little view of whatever it is that you do.
Don’t try to unlock the BIG doors
with someone else’s key.
P.S. If you REALLY want a shortcut…
to being known,
to having doors open EASILY for you,
to having a WAITING LIST of prospects,
to charging fees you want,
to breaking out of local and going NaTIONAL,
don’t claim someone else’s work as your own.
